You can expect a long period of adjustment to your body and especially your cardiovascular system. If you have not been exercising regularly it will be a good 4-6 weeks before you will start feeling less tired. There will come a time that your body will produce endorphins while you are exercising that give the ump to keep going. You will enjoy them so much you will want to keep going and this will help to counter the fatigue and pain you feel at the time you are exercising. That's what makes people addicted to running and other endurance sports. God bless and keep it up!
It absolutely gets easier! When I first started, I was ready to collapse after 5 minutes on the elliptical, and after my first strength training session I was SO SORE for 2 full days that all I could do was stand up or lay down - nothing in between (and it HURT to transition between the 2)! But I've never been sore like that again, and I've since been able to tell the elliptical who's boss for about 30 minutes at a time!
If anything, it was really motivating that starting from scratch was HARD, so I had better keep going so I would never have to start from scratch again!!!
Ahhhh, that first strength training session. I'll warn you right now that it might get worse for a day or two - delayed onset muscle soreness. When I get back to the weights, I usually pay for it for a day or two after. Usually because I go just a little too hard thinking I can.
But then? It'll get better. It'll get way better quite quickly.
I found the same thing with my running - especially when I do long runs. About an hour after I'm done, I need a serious nap, then I'm fine.

Oh yes, absolutely, it'll get easier. When you go from zero exercise to exercising regularly, you are bound to experience some resistance from your body. Rest when needed and don't overdo it.
I came through my front door after my second session at the gym and slept for two hours in my entry foyer floor. The level of my fatigue astounded me.
After six weeks I felt better. Still somewhat tired, but not nearly as exhausted as the first week.
Two years later, I LOVE exercise. When I got bored with fixed machines at the gym for ST, I moved to rubber bands at home. I switched from the treadmill to the elliptical and to walking 10K steps daily around the lakes and trails where I live. And I found and fell in love with Pilates, Zumba and yoga classes that I now can't imagine my life without.
Yes it gets easier. Yes, it can become so much fun. Hang in there, let yourself find the things you truly like to do and you can make it work.
Honestly, I hate the gym. It does get easier, but only if you find some form of exercise that you enjoy. Maybe try a class or something outside like walking. I personally love running outside, so much that I look forward to it, but I dread doing anything else, so I mostly go running. You can even do your strength training outside or at home - it doesn't have to be at the gym. Also, maybe play some music on your headphones that really gets you energized - that helps me sooo much!
If someone told me I had to go to a gym to lose weight, I would decide to be happily plump the rest of my life.
As was said before, find something you like. If you don't like the gym...don't go there.

It will get easier!! don't try and push yourself to do too much too quickly for fear of getting burned out and not wanting to exercise. Also! Find something that you LOVE to do!! Just because your 3 best friends love 3 different things doesn't mean you will like ANY of them. Find an exercise or routine that fits who YOU are and then you'll look forward to it :)
yes it does get easier. when I first started working out I went 2 minutes on my treadmill at the speed of 2. I thought I was going to die. Well fast forward to now. I can walk 10 miles and do just fine.
If you are new to all this, go rather slow at first......gym every other day for a couple weeks. You will soon find yourself WANTING to exercise. Takes time for our bodies to adjust to this new way of living. Don't give up, soon you will be doing great ! Barbara

I'm fairly new to seriously working out and today was my third time to the gym this week and my first time doing strength training and I just about want to cry from being so tired. It's only 7 pm - I haven't made dinner yet and I'm so tired I want to skip my shower and go straight to bed. (I know, I'm whining a little) But, has anyone been in my shoes? Please, just tell me it gets easier - that I will not always feel like I'm going to crash and burn after every workout.
