I'm in pain, a lot of pain, terrible mood, bloated, cranky, and just want to sit down and cry eating chocolate... I soooooo hate this days, I'm usually a super centered low maintenance girl i as thinking about taking pills to help me control the painfull periods, but read some horrible things about Yasmin, which were my go to.. any recommendations?
I don't enter my period weight into the tracker. I just enter my weight the next week when I am back to normal.
When I didn't watch what I ate or exercised I would always gain 5 lbs during my period. It would go away right away when my period was done. Now that I exercise pretty regularly and watch what I eat, I gain maybe 1 or 2 pounds which also go away when my period does. For me, I feel that it is pretty important to keep watching my food intake and exercising during that time even if no pounds are lost because of all the other health benefits. If I don't lose weight, it isn't a reason to give up all my efforts to live a healthy lifestyle. It won't make me feel better in the long run to binge and beat myself up because of a number.

I experience weight gain or zero loss once a month too. I notice that my waist measurement goes up a bit that week too, which is a sure sign of water-retention.
Good job not giving in to hormonal cravings - that is a big accomplishment! Keep up the good work and you will see results. The long-term trend is what matters, not what the scale says today.

If you know your weight goes up because of your period, then don't weigh yourself until after your cycle has passed.
If you tie your emotions to the scale, then don't weigh when you're either having your period or you're PMS-ing. Instead, wait until after your period to do your weigh in.
Also, if you know your weight does go up whenever you're having your period, then you shouldn't allow a gain on the scale to ruin your day. Having a period really IS a perfectly normal biological function for women.
Remember, there is more to good health than a number that stares at us from between our toes in the morning. My advice ? Don't weigh during your period if that number is going to make you miserable.

It is the same with me. That weigh in with Tom is always bad because I gain, so I know that it will happen. It does not bother me anymore. But it is always frustrating to see the scale go up.

How about not getting on the scale during your TOM? I am having the exact same problem this week, and of course I couldn't help but get on the scale anyway today. Seeing the exact same weight as last week is discouraging, but I know it is just due to my period. I am trying very hard not to let it get me down and I think from now on, I'll hide the scale during this time. Or have someone else hide it so I am not tempted!!

I know this is easy to say and not so easy to internalize, but hey--you've stuck to your healthy eating plan and not binged! No matter what the scale reads, that is *healthy*! And good! And something to be really pleased with and excited about! Healthier is always better, no matter what the scale says. WTG!

At least yours isn't lasting 10-11 days like mine has been for the past 5 or 6 months. I have no idea why... It sucks.
I totally understand how you feel. I did the same thing just before this last period. Iate ice cream and chocolate syrup at around 3pm, then ate no dinner because I was so mad at myself and besides, I wasn't hungry. But, that is because of the monthly cravings! I think the next time I get ravenous like that, I'll force myself into an activity, project, visit family, SOMETHING.

Yep...happens to me too. But, I've learned to not let it bother me because I know that the week following my TOM will show good results. For me, the week before tends to leave me wanting salty snacks so I'll usually factor in some hot air popcorn that week so I don't feel like I'm missing something.
Knowledge is power! When you step on the scale during that TOM, factor in the extra 2-3 lb of water weight. Keep reminding yourself that it's not a real weight gain.
During that TOM, I try to stay away from salty foods and anything else that might exacerbate the bloating or water retention. It doesn't always work, but I like to think that it keeps things from getting much worse.
It sucks, but it's normal. I, for example, NEVER lose any weight AT ALL during my period. In fact, I gain 2-3 lbs., and it's there until my period goes away. I've come to expect it. I know it's just water weight because it goes away with my period. I keep up my healthy habits anyway and try really hard not to let it bother me, since I've realized it's just something my body does.

Thanks guys; the logical part of my brain knows that I need to not let it get me down and it's actually quite a common thing that happens to women. But my logical brain hasn't been so forthright lately!!
Still, I won't let it ruin my good week. Onwards and upwards!

UGH definitely the worst! But I tell myself that I know it is just water weight and if I go on a crazy eating frenzy, then it WON'T just be water weight that will drop in a few days, it will be over-eating weight that will take longer to come off.

Good for you for being in control. Don't let your TOM ruin it :) Easier said than done, I know! If this is the first week you've started your healthy habits, it's normal to not see any immediate weight loss. Put the scale away, keep eating healthy, exercise, and weigh yourself a month from now. Weigh, measure, track your food and make sure your goals are realistic and not too aggressive. Hang in there! It's frustrating but don't give up.

So, I'm in a mood.
I've been great all week- stuck to my healthy eating plan and I've managed to keep my binge urges totally under control- a fact of which I am extremely proud. Yay!
Problem is- I'm in the run up to my period and when I weighed in this morning I've lost NO WEIGHT AT ALL! Not an ounce! In fact, I think I'm *up* a few pounds...
This isn't exactly new to me, I've noticed bloating and weight gain in the run up to and in the first few days of my period. But I hate it, even though I know it's not necessarily a reliable indicator of how I'm doing or how my health is improving it pisses me off so much!
It makes me feel like I have an innate inability to lose weight and I might as well go and binge like a fool... How do I let this not affect all of the work I've put in this last week???
