I have a problem with bingeing on peanuts. I have found that raw nuts (usually almonds or pecans) are a better choice for me. I don't know the science but I am guessing that roasting them brings out the limited amount of sugar present and that touches off the binge monster that lives inside of me that isn't awakened so quickly when I consume raw nuts
Heh, funny, I'm eating MORE peanuts now to help keep me away from chips and too many crackers. I'd much rather blow snack calories on nuts.
I agree with the suggestion of buying the in-shell peanuts and that it might slow you down so you feel like you're consuming more, but you're really not. That's the only way I buy peanuts. I think they just taste better right out of the shell. Just bought two bags yesterday.

I just started on a almond and pistachio kick and will be snacking on those throughout the holiday hoping that it will help cool the desire to snack on sugary goodies
Walnuts which are a great source of omega 3's. Eating just 4 walnuts per day can keep your heart healthy....about 27 calories a whole walnut.
Almonds are believed to be the healthiest choice for nuts, they are low in saturated fat, reduce blood sugar levels and the risk of obesity. A good rule is to have 20 almonds and is about 140 calories
Pistachio's can reduce cholesterol and blood pressure and help keep you full. 28 pistachio's daily
Nuts and Seeds can elevate mood....if you like peanuts just control the portion...they are highly beneficial for the heart, contain antioxidants and fiber...
You couldn't get a better snack...add an apple a day as apples benefit the heart as well. Maybe try Apple slices with a thin layer of peanut butter and topped with a walnut half.

I assume you're looking for something with chewy pieces that aren't sweet? Peanuts in the shell would at least slow you down... Likewise for other nuts and seeds in the shell.
Roasted edamame (green soybeans) are high protein and I think lower calorie, not sure. They don't taste oily (Seapoint brand). Ditto for roasted soybeans. The Good Bean makes several flavors (including savory) of small roasted chickpeas (garbanzo beans). Kay's Naturals has cinnamon pretzels that are not too sweet but quite high protein (soy based, gluten free). You can check out ingredients and nutritional info plus reviews on www.iHerb.com and amazon for all these foods. You also might look for roasted peas- the ones I've had in Indian or Asian mixes have been very tasty. I use the wasabi ones as quick decongestants ("Take two wasabi peas and call me in the morning". Really! But less spicy hot ones make good eating.
Since everything is on the net- there are probably recipes for such things on the web somewhere.
I love peanuts and eat them daily but find I probably eat more of them than I should for the amount of calories/fat in them. Its kind of my after dinner fix, but not worth it. Any substitute ideas for this food?
