While machines such as the elliptical do know the specifics of the speed and resistance settings you are using (while Spark uses just broad averages), machines are also notorious for significantly overestimating the calories burned.

Unless you were using quite high resistance settings, I would go with the more conservative of the two estimates.

In the context of 1450 calories over a week, 100 calories is probably less than the margin of error inherent in the estimates anyway. Not something to get worried about.

I noticed last week that I completed 215 / 180 of my fitness minutes, but only 1344 / 1450 of my calories burned. Right now I am doing two hour long yoga classes and am doing cardio (with variable resistance) on the elliptical 6 days a week. I haven't been tracking the exact calories burned according to the elliptical, I'm only inputting how long I go into Sparkpeople. Should I worry that I was nearly 100 calories burned under the recommendation (since this is what my diet goals are based on)? Should I start recording down the actual cardio numbers the elliptical provides instead?
