I am at my goal and have been for a long time. Even WHILE in a weight-loss mode, I would eat chocolate, or ice-cream, or anything else that I fancied. BUT just not all the time. I allowed one day every two weeks to eat whatever I felt like, and believe me, some of those days I sure felt like a LOT - LOL! Anyway it worked for me, and I never beat myself up because I had given myself permission to do this occasionally. After all, SP isn't about deprivation or starvation - merely a healthy lifestyle, healthy portions, an appropriate amount of exercise and good hydration. It is about balance, the good, the bad and the ugly :-)

Thanks Hun ... That's great advice you've given me coz I usually go for all or nothing :( its so hard to change it. If I eat a little choc that means I've wrecked my diet.. I know I'm wrong but how can I change thinking like that?! I'm gonna start slow as u said and lets see how that works
Thanks again for your great advice xo

MUMOF04,

Congratulations on your new baby ! Don't beat yourself up beat yourself up because you lost weight only to regain it. That's something that has happened to every single member of Spark. All of us are experts at gaining, losing and regaining the weight. You can't change the past. but, you CAN change and influence the future.

The first piece of advice I would tell you is,"don't look at weight loss or good health with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you were to do for yourself was to drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

Start with some simple changes you can stick with. Example, if you're not used to eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not used to drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. If you're not used to regular exercise, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones.

And that's how good health starts. It doesn't start with all or nothing. It starts with a few simple changes. Because one change will lead to another and another and another. Before you know it, all those small changes add up into one huge accomplishment.

You're going to have to learn to cut yourself some slack. Will you make mistakes ? You betcha. We all did. What matters is what we learn from those mistakes. This really is a learning process. So, don't beat yourself up if you're not perfect. You don't have to be perfect to be healthy.

I am wondering if your weight-gain after having lost so much is because you may have started too quickly with changing a lot of things all at one time. This will often cause people to regain once they have reached their goal. It doesn't actually teach us a healthy lifestyle - just deprivation and perhaps starvation. This journey needn't be hard - you just start with baby steps, changing only one or two things at a time and allowing your body to get used to it before you add something else to the mix. It is easy enough to get exercise in and you have four reasons and 'vehicles' for this sitting in your home - your children. There is no reason why you can't take them for exploratory walks of your neighbourhood - go hunting for pebbles, insects, dead leaves, etc. etc. Go on car-counting expeditions, or just count cars of certain colours. This will not only help them develop their skills, it will get you all fresh air, exercise, and a good bonding time together. You could go to a playground and kick a ball around if you don't have a back yard. You can do some exercise while you are watching TV after they go to bed.

Generally the only reason the milk deteriorates when you are feeding AND go on a weight-loss journey is because you are not eating enough to sustain the milk production and/or you are not eating a nutritionally sound diet, including hydration.

I would suggest that you speak with your Dr and ask for a referral to a Dietitian so that you get qualified input taking into account your specific needs, to ensure that you get a balanced diet and adequate calories to sustain breastfeeding. I fed my son for 2 1/2 years, and altho' I would never say "If I can do it so can you", I believe the reason I was able to manage WAS because of good, balanced nutrition.

Good luck,
Kris
