Don't if this would help - but judging from my experience increase in exercising does not bring weight loss but weight gain. Well, in my case anyway. Last Saturday went for a 8 mile run, next day my weight was 2 pounds up. I know its muscles as I am using Tanita scale. And this happens every time I do long runs. Also my jeans feel more tighter on those days. So may be you put more muscles too?

First, thank you for the support! This was a slightly depressing day, as a started to measure myself my numbers have increased all the way around. Ahhhhhh.Never finished the measurements.

So I know I will need to increase my strength training 4x (Koko FitClub) and the cardio to 4x week, and maybe try to add HITT 2x week. I still eat healthy.

Any other suggestions??? Please let me know.

This journey requires patience and faith. If you are following all the steps you will get healthier and your weight will go down. You do have to help yourself by continuing to learn and adjust. Hang in there.

What was your body fat percentage before the gains in strength?
What is your body fat percentage now?
How about your inches lost? What is the change from last month?

CHICAGOHOPE,

What you're experiencing is perfectly normal. It's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

There are many different reasons the scale could go up that have absolutely nothing to do with the food you eat. So, don't beat yourself up because the scale went up. In order to truly gain five pounds of fat would have required you to have eaten an extra 17,500 calories on top of your intake. If you know you didn't eat that much extra food, then you know you didn't gain fat.

BUT it is easy to retain water. Water has weight. Drink a half a liter of water, don't go pee and you've just gained about two pounds. Shoot, I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of a shift in my water.

Don't worry ! You're normal. this is a temporary gain that will pass in a few days.

Hi CHICAGOHOPE,

Our weight is not a static number, but more like a vital sign. Just like your blood pressure, heart rate and body temp will vary throughout the day or from day to day, same is true with your weight. Because our bodies are largely made up of water (the fitter we are the more water we retain), any deviation in our diet, hydration, workouts, even hormones can lead to a shift on the scale.

This is why it is so important not to base your success on the reading from a scale. I would take an 11% increase in strength over a loss on the scale. That means you are doing all that it takes to move your body toward better health and fitness. Remember too that as you build muscle mass, your body will hang onto more fluids to aid in the cooling off process as well as storing more glycogen to fuel your workouts which in turns causes your body to hang onto more fluids.

Hang in there!

Coach Nancy

So I thought I was doing all the right things, eating right working out... Even had an 11% strength increase over the last month. Now I step on the scale and 5 lbs gained. Now what?? I know I have a lot of stress in my life, mostly work...I do have a habit of workout after work, but then coming home and sleeping...Can this be the cause?? HELP!!!
