You are a great weight and I think people are sometimes out of their minds. But like slimmerkiwi said, if you possibly do have a scoliosis issue, it wouldn't hurt to try a new way of exercise, like Pilates or weight lifting, to see if that would help. I have a belly too. My hips are slim and awesome, the rest of me seems to shrink up together when I am losing weight, but the belly remains. I think it's from kids and years of overeating and stretching it out too much.
Everyone else offered great advice. I have nothing else to offer, other than my outrage at people's nosiness, gall, and downright rudeness! Unless you can see the baby crowning, DO NOT ASK ABOUT PREGNANCY. Jeeze....

Uuuuugh! People who ask this question are stupid. At best it is thoughtless and nosy, at worst it is just plain mean.
I didn't get this question until recently. NOT what you want to hear when you are on the cusp of having lost 100 pounds. Really, my belly is the only fat that I have left, so it KIND of makes sense, but it's still an idiotic thing to ask a stranger. I have metabolic problems which cause me to hang on to belly fat no matter how hard I work. I also lost my uterus a couple of years ago to a cantaloupe-sized tumor. I have no children. I very much would have liked to have had children. It's a heartbreaking thing for me, and when I get this question it is very upsetting.

What do you do for strength training ? If you haven't been doing any strength training as part of your exercise routine, I'm going to encourage you to start. One thing strength training will do is increase your lean muscle. Increasing lean muscle will not only make you physically stronger, it will also improve your posture.
I don't know if you have lordosis or any other curvature of the spine. let's say you have a normal spine. If your tummy sticks out, I might be a result of poor posture and weak back muscles. If you can increase your strength, that will improve your posture, which in turn will get rid of that tummy issue. No, strength training may not give you a perfectly flat tummy, BUT improving your posture will make a big difference.
So, as long as you don't have any pre-existing medical issues, I would recommend a good strength training program. Plank is one of the best core exercises you can do as part of your ST program. Push ups too. I know women don't like doing push ups, but they'll help you with your posture too.
Check out the fitness section, Coach Nicole has a bunch of short 10-15 minute ST workouts you can do at home. Also, look for these two books in the library.
Body for Life by Bill Phillips New Rules of Lifting for Women by Cosgrove
Both are good beginner books that will teach you the basics of strength training. Don't be afraid to lift a heavy weight. I can assure you that you won't look like a body builder if you do. that's a misconception.
Also, while you're learning to strength train, there is something you can do immediately to get rid of that tummy as well as the nasty comments. Buy a pair of SPANX. They are a panty with some tummy control. Lots of women wear them for a bit of support. They are not our mother's girdles.
X-ray's revealed that I had lordosis of the spine (which is that kind of curving), and Scoliosis.
Altho' the Lordosis isn't WHY I was referred to a Physiotherapist who teaches Mat Pilates, it helped it considerably. By going to her weekly, and me doing 1/4 - 1/2 hr sessions at home daily for the first 2-3 years, My Lordosis has improved. My tummy doesn't stick out so far (and yes, I was frequently asked if I was pregnant, or when I was due) and my butt doesn't look so big, either. This effect started long before I was any weight-loss journey, so it wasn't the weight-loss that made the difference.

I get asked that question more often than I would like. I often say, "not anytime in the foreseeable future" it is really annoying. I have had three kids, and my uterus is stretched out, and my gynecologist says it is still the size of a cantaloupe years later. Nothing I can do about it. What I want to say is my baby is due about the time you learn some manners or not to be rude!

...I keep getting asked when "I'm due" or "are you expecting?". It's so annoying. I am at a very healthy weight for my 5'6" frame, and I honestly do not need to lose any weight; even my physician agrees. My tummy curves out, my back curves in. I have a 29.5" waist at the smallest point.
My self-esteem is dragging because while I am (ah hem, maybe WAS) content with my body, I'm feeling insecure and starting to think everyone must look at me like that. I lost 40 lbs 5 years ago BECAUSE someone asked me if I was pregnant. Still, 40 lbs later, I'm still getting asked. I can't FORCE the tummy to curve back or flatten out, it's how my body is. I dress how the pros say to dress to mask a belly, I wear belted tops to show my waist/hip curves. I'm not "fat", but maybe I am because people think I'm pregnant?? My hubby says I look great & healthy & perfect, my family says I do not look pregnant...my mind says otherwise.
Please, some advice? A boost of confidence is SO needed...thanks.
