ANY time is a great time to start...especially with Sparkpeople. Give yourself a big hug for making this positive choice for yourself. Take your time to explore all the resources available for you here. It can seem overwhelming because there are so many resources to choose from. Two to consider using are the Nutrition and Fitness Trackers. Also, check out Spark Teams under the COMMUNITY Tab. Do searches on your goals, interests, hobbies, whatever. Then join one, two or more Spark teams. You'll enjoy getting to know these folks and giving and getting lots of encouragement along the way. It's all good. Enjoy the journey!

Thanks for the messages! You all made mr feel right at home! I hate to admit it but I've gone over my caloric goals the past few days and I am feeling a bit blue. But I did make my exercise goals. Any tips? Should I rework my goals to allow myself more than 1200 calories a day and be satisfied with a longer term of weight loss? Am I setting myself up for defeat or do I need to buckle down and see if I can do a better job? I appreciate any and all of your advice and feedback. Thanks, Joan

Welcome to the team Joan! Being a former dancer myself ( I was at Point Park Univerity in Pennsylvania) I can relate to the frustration behind the pain. My career was cut short due to injury. I have found a ton of support and encouragement on here and know you will too. Wishing you the best in your 2013 goals.

Welcome!! I'm so happy to hear the pain is gone which must mean you can return to your passion. My best advice is to think of this as a health journey, not a weight loss journey. Start small and build on your success.

Hello Spark People! I am a newbie and am finding motivation on this site to help me reach my health goals in 2013. I live in Athens, GA where I am a Professor of Dance at the University of Georgia. Due to chronic pain, which is now thankfully gone - I have almost doubled my weight from the time I was 40. Now at 52 I hope to make some changes in my lifestyle that will bring me renewed vigor both physically and mentally and create a new more healthy me.
