Welcome Lori - you've come to the right place. I love what I've learned on SparkPeople and can't imagine going back to eating the junk I did before. I love that I've lost weight with virtually no discomfort. But more than that, I love feeling like a whole person rather than a battleground for mind vs body on what went into my mouth. When my body speaks, it's important for me to understand what it needs. Following the nutrition tracker, I realized that when I've dieted in the past, I actually wasn't eating enough calories for my body to do it's best work - and that can actually sabotage weight loss efforts.

Hi, Lori. My best advice for you would be the following:
1. Learn, live, love the Nutrition Tracker. Stay within the daily bottom line ranges for calories, carbs, fat, and protein. This will lose your weight.
2. Do 30 minutes cardio, 10 minutes strength, 5 days a week. This will sculpt your body.
The combination of #1 and #2 will cause heads to turn, eyes to pop, and jaws to drop! Guaranteed!

I'm a professional photographer and spent hours at my desk all day, today I start to lose 50lbs. Already lost 20but it took months! We should all start a photography group

Hi Lori, welcome. When I started here I also had 50 to lose, I have lost 30. I hit a plateu but I'm working hard to lose the rest. Good luck.

Hi, Lori ! Welcome to Spark People !!
I agree. Definitely join some of the great Spark Teams. There are thousands of teams that cover any topic you can consider. Joining a team is a great way to meet new members. You might start with the Spark Team for Canadian members or even the ones from Manitoba.
Now, on a more serious note, I give all new members one piece of advice when they join and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.
Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. That's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. Change takes time. thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body. No one ever became a healthy eater overnight. it's impossible. That's why SP encourages its members to start with some simple changes first. Set some simple weekly goals. don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated.
Take baby steps, literally and figuratively.

You might check out spark teams, I know there are a few Canadian groups to join up with for more local support. There are also teams for challenges (like C25K or Biggest Loser) where you can meet and interact with people.

Hi I am Lori. I am 40 with 4 - 5 kids still at home (one is 20 and comes and goes as he pleases) I have around 50 pounds to loose. I am a photographer and I live just outside of Winnipeg Manitoba. I have to loose at least 20 pounds (doctors orders) because of my high blood pressure. Need some motivation! Would love to chat/meet with others.
