I've always wondered how many calories are burned with other things with hubby. Never really wanted to put on my HRM to find out lol

I have not noticed any tracking when I am driving. I do have it clipped to my bra, so that might be why. I do wear it when I sleep and it is fascinating. To look at the graph the next day and see when you got up to go to the bathroom, or if you work up when your hubby came to bed...or anything else with the hubby...lol...
I use both the HRM and fitbit when I take spinning classes,
BTW, way to shop! I love deals...
Any idea how this will connect to Spark yet? I have not been recording food etc. Just my activity with Fitbit on FB. I love getting my weekly reports and seeing how I am doing each week.

I just ordered the Fitbit Ultra from Amazon. It was on sale for $77.00 probably because they are coming out with another version this month. With my amazon points, it only cost me $14.00. How many of you use your fitbits for sleeping? Do you use your HRM when working out or just use the fitbit? How many of you have found that it tracks steps when you are driving?

Thanks for any info.

I got my leash from Amazon for about $3 plus shipping. I have not had to use it at all as I keep my Fitbit clipped to my bra. I find the clip that comes with the Fitbit goes quite securely onto my waistband of any pants or workout bottoms. The clip I bought has a small elastic leash on it so it can slide right up the opening of the Fitbit and then the other side clips to any fabric. Trust me, with all this, your Fitbit won't go anywhere! I

Where do you suggest I get a "leash" for my new FitBit Ultra? It's not in yet, but I want to learn more about why I would need it and where to get it. Thanks!

I have a Fitbit, but the older version. AND I love it! I use it everyday now that I am very cardio driven. I love trying to beat previous steps. And I love how vibrate the fitbit website is. It has helped keep me honest and focused. I hope you enjoy yours.

Also wanted to mention, word is out on the Fitbit site that they will be able to sync with SparkPeople on or about Oct. 1. No details on exactly how this will work yet.

The people on the Fitbit forums generally say that the stride length Fitbit calculates for you based on your height is likely to be more accurate than what you could measure yourself. But I have only had mine 4 days so far. Got a reading of .95 miles for a distance that I think is a mile or slightly more, so it seems to be falling a little bit short.

I did a google search and found how to measure my stride. It says that if you do not enter your own on Fitbit, a default one will be used. It might be worth it to compare if you are closely monitoring it.

I am really enjoying my Fitbit also. And SO relieved that even someone like me could figure out how to re-sync it. I have not used it to sleep yet, that is my next project. I love the little chat phrases that come up!

I am hoping this little gadget will help keep me in touch with actual versus perceived moving/exercise.

Also have a Fitbit that I LOVE!

But I have a question for those that use it to record a walk, jog, or run. Are you finding the calculated mileage to be accurate? The distance I get from a recorded activity is consistently about a half mile less than the distance I've calculated using SparkPeople's tool to track the same path.

Any thoughts?

I'm shorter than the average woman, 5 feet, and wonder if this has something to do with my gait/stride. I should calculate and enter my own stride?

Mine resets at midnight I think. The only reason I think that is that we are traveling and when I took it off at about 1215 last night it had reset. I put mine on in the morning about 6:30a then put it on the dock about 10p and in the morning it has reset. I did have to take a pen to the little place on the bottom of the dock once to get it to collect all of my results. Not sure this will help, but if not maybe someone else can help.

Thanks- I actually got it last night and thought I was so clever...but, alas, I did not get a number pop up so cannot sync to my laptop. And not sure how to get it now...does the fitbit reset every day? I wrote down my info this afternoon and when I just checked it, it had gone from 10,027 steps, 5.1 miles and 1795 calories burned to 1325 steps, 201 calories and .5 miles...I know it seems so simple, but alas, it is still something I screwed up. emoticon emoticon

Kathy I am not sure what type of laptop I have but it was very easy to setup. I love it, though I don't track my food on the site. I wear it on my bra everyday and I love looking to see how many steps I have taken and how many calories I have burned.

I am also considering a Fitbit Ultra. However I am one of the few people who does not have an Iphone, and do not have an Apple computer. Will it work with a regular laptop? And how difficult it is to set up? Thanks in advance... emoticon

I love my fitbit - I've had since they first came out :) It's so great to see how much you move during the day and check the number of steps to remind yourself to keep moving during the day.

Does it sync with sparkpeople automatically? My friend told me hers syncs with the nutrition/exercise site she uses every time she walks by her computer.

Well, I have gone completely fitbit! I may have prematurely berated the food tracker. Once you get a few of your staple things in there it actually works quite well. And adding a food is pretty easy because it pulls it up right in the food label format so it’s a quick fill in the numbers.

I just felt that managing through two sites was too cumbersome and since I committed to the device I better fully commit to the site.

The only down fall, with the free version, is the lack of reporting, but my mind set regarding that is that I am realizing the weight battle is where you are today and not so much where you were last week or last month. You can still click back through your days and see how you did but having the real time info of the fitbit on your true activity vs. what you have already eaten today is helping me. I lost 3 lbs. last week when I had kind of plateaued for the few weeks prior.

Also I am finding the meter graph they give you addicting. It tells you how you are doing with your calorie intake vs. your fitbit activity data. And if you are over in calories it will tell you how many calories you need to go burn to be back in “goal” range.

Anyway that’s my update for now. I lost 15 lbs total so far! Only 70 more to go!

That's the same fall back I have about my monitor. And that's not being able to sync the two on the nutrition. I only log into Sparkpeople, because to do both sites is truly time consuming. However, I wouldn't trade my monitor for the world. By the way I keep my monitor strap to my arm. It's not attached to the clothing. I wish that I was able to wear it on calf when I wear a dress. Enjoy your FitBit!

OK, I have had my fitbit for a few days now and I gotta say I am leaning toward staying on spark people and just using it as a glorified pedometer. Maybe I am just used to SP but I find the Fitbit website very cumbersome, especially the food tracker. Also, I am only about 300 points away from my next level on SP and I gotta get that next level!!

So pros and cons for the FB.....

Pro's so far:
- It is very, very accurate
- I really like the sleep reports
- All the activity is automatic upload, this is by far the nicest feature, if this uploaded to SP automatically I would be in hog heaven
- Tracks stairs climbed, also very accurate and a 10 ft change in elevation count so if you are doing hills it counts as flights / stairs (IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO TRACK STAIRS IN SP, THAT WOULD BE GREAT)
- No annoying clicking sound like the cheap ones
- Graphs on the website are easy to read and make sense
- Some nice features on the activity trackers, but again similar to SP
- I added step and mileage trackers to my SP fitness tracker so that is pretty easy to track
- Once things are logged its easy to drop and drag things, edit, etc.

Con's so far:
- I am afraid of losing this expensive thing! Doesn't help the stress level.
- Can't stand the food tracker on the site
- All the reports we get here on SP are a paid upgrade on FB site, and its not cheap @ $50/Year
- Community interactivity is bad!!!! There are over 2,000 groups but no way to search them (unless you go to some other site)
- This is sort of picky but SP is just more fun with all the interactivity, blogs, articles, recipes, and spin the wheel points, etc. (Its all about the points!!!)
- Can't stand the food tracker...yea I said it again.

So, for me I am not quit ready to jump ship to Fitbit. Love the accuracy and the cool factor of it but the site, for me, is very lacking. Maybe would be better if you shelled out the $50 but I already paid $75 for the fitbit (got a discount through insurance) and don't see any perceived value in extra expense. I thought I was getting all the reporting features when I purchased the fitbit so I am also a little disappointed too from a consumer point of view I guess.

I'll keep posting comments as I get more familiar with it.
Jon

I have one and wear it except when in shower. I love the fact that I can wear on my bra, and it's small. It stays charged a long time and updates automatically online whenver near the base! It has motivated me to get more steps and be more active. I love it and would highly suggest it to anyone!

My understanding is that you can set the sleep sensitivity. My wife has had one for several months and I just got mine today so I am trying to figure it out. I have been amazed at the accuracy of my wife's.

I have been off and on SP for a few years (need to be more on!) and love the ease and interactivity of everything, so I am struggling with converting to fitbit of using the fitbit as a glorified pedometer and still tracking on SP.

I also have obstructive sleep apnea so the sleeping portion of the fitbit was a big plus for me.

from what I've read about the sleep monitoring it actually monitors your movement, so if you lay awake at night but are very still it will still say you're sleeping. Also, if you move in your sleep a lot but sleep through it, it will be tracked as not sleeping.

I'm waiting to hear as well! Really liked what I've seen and read but worried about spending the money and not using it. I like the possibility of monitoring my sleep because of some sleep issues I've had so I'd like to hear about that. The one good thing I see for sure is that if I don't use it at least it doesn't take up space in my bedroom or living room and I can't hang clothes on it like a treadmill emoticon
