Welcome to SparkPeople I second the idea of joining a group. Its always easier when you have people going through the same thing to support you. Give yourself time, its a big shock to find out you have to totally change your lifestyle, its going to take time to adjust but you will get there.
I would suggest joining a team..give and get motivation and encouragment and find people going through the same stuff as yourself...at the top the the page under "community" is sparkteams...you can go there and search for ones with like interests,goals and/or weight loss goals...
I found a few about diabetes but feel free to try look for yourself...

My doctor tells me I have diabetes. Not a surprise, given my height, weight and habits, but a shock knowing it's true. I don't know where to start. It's pretty easy to do the blood thing, although sometimes I feel like a turnip and I've already gone through four weeks of dip strips trying to get enough of a drop of blood to meter. Next I have to concentrate on eating. Or not eating. Anybody else new at this?
