OUCH belly button rings hurt for a long time and when my niece had it done she was told not to exercise for 2 weeks also as one poster said and she was sore from it for months. Tell your daughter just to walk, don't want it to get infected
Your regular doctor doesn't have to know anything about belly button piercings; s/he just needs to know about puncture wounds to the navel area. Any doctor is pretty sure to know what to do for a hole in the belly button, regardless of how the hole got there.
I don't know whether working out will increase the risk of infection, but if the doc says it will, make sure your daughter listens! Infections in the navel can be really deadly because there are important blood vessels in that area that will spread bacteria throughout the body really fast.
When I got my nipple piercings they told me not to exercise for at least 2 weeks because it could get infected -because of the sweat and stuff- .... also if you keep moving the piercing before it heals you can get a nasty scar so it's better not to exercise for a while...
I agree that you should call your health care provider.

I thought about that but our family health care provider probably knows squat about belly button rings! LOL. I thought I'd ask people who actually had experience with them, they really don't tell you much on the after care instruction sheet about working out.

I would try calling your family health care provider to see if they have any guidance or maybe try google for the answer.

I have come to the boards for advice as I know NOTHING about this subject. My belly is a logn way from any rings still.
My daughter recently got a belly button ring ( a few days ago) and told me she doesn't know if she should be working out with it being so new. She hates not working out as she feels glummy and UGG when she doesn't! BUT I told her I did not know for sure what to tell her. I said maybe she could still run on treadmill but I did not think she should do any toning exercises for now, anything that would pull on it, stretch it etc. She asked for how long?
Well.. I have no idea what I am talking about with any of it. I thought I'd ask some people who actually have one. Thanks for the advice.
