To get the most out of SparkPeople you can go to your start page and on the top right corner you will see a tab "how to use this site" click on that and once you're done going through those steps, which will help you navigate the site, you can add teams (that hold similar interests), add friends and post on your team threads or here on the message boards.
You will find a lot of support here that will give you just the nudge that you are looking for!!

Here's another nudge.
I joined SP thinking it might help me see if I was simply eating too many calories. Yikes, over 2500 per day. And not enough exercise.
