I would highly suggest HIIT workout as well...I'm currently doing T25 and can't believe how great of a workout is packed into those 25minutes. I am seeing great results if not the best results I've ever seen from a workout and I am someone who works out regularly, played sports my whole life, enjoy running, etc. It definitely does the trick and since it's only 25 min you don't have time to get bored (constantly switches the exercises up). P90x also came out with a 30min workout which is their p90x3 workout. I would suggest checking those out and even getting some friends to join you so you have others around to help motivate you.

Have you ever tried High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)? The whole point is an intense workout in a short period of time. You can try to go the "enjoy your workout" route which is awesome, or you just face the fact that it's going to kind of suck but you'll feel great when you get it done and get closer to your goals.
Check out SweshFit, which has quick 15 minute workouts with a mix of cardio and strength training. The workouts are different everyday so that helps with the boredom.

Hi everyone. I have gained weight this past winter. Eating bad, emotional eater and I am in my last few months of grad school. Feel down a lot and just need some encouragement. Went to the gym and worked out on the machines for 30 minutes and stayed off the night time snacking. Anyone know of any natural supplements to lower the appetite? Goal to work out 4 times a week for thirty minutes and eat under 1500 calories this week, just trying to long term shrink the tummy and drink my waters. thanks for the encouragement in advance. Long winter and ready for spring and get togethers with family and friends.

Try something more 'fun' than an exercise class at your community center. Take up a hobbie or a class that is exciting to you, such as a horseback riding, or belly dance (this is not a type of dance that requires you to memorize steps) etc. Do you live near lakes? Try kayaking or canoeing! In the summer plant a garden so that you are required to go outside everyday and water it/maintain it.
If you have kids, start taking them out for picnics, or go to the lake. No these are not classes, but maybe classes aren't your thing. Maybe you just need to learn how to live a more active lifestyle.

If you commute try biking or running instead if driving. There is motivation in getting to your destination. Or you can try breaking up your exercise. It doesn't have to be one continuous hour. You could do 20 mins in the morning, 20 mins at lunch and 20 mins in the evening.
My problem? I'm bored! Bored with riding a bike for an hour, bored with lifting a barbell for an hour, etc.
There is no need to exercise for an hour to get results.
You are actually better off exercising for 30 minutes at a higher intensity, than in grinding it out slowly for an hour.
Same with strength training. By lifting heavy (enough to fatigue your muscles in 8 reps) is FAR more effective than doing 15 reps with a lighter weight, and takes less time. And by choosing compound moves that work several different muscles at once, you can get an all-body workout in just 20-30 minutes. An example of a compound-based routine would be:
Basically, focussing on quality over quantity in your workout is not just more time-efficient, it is more effective as well. And less time spent working out is less time to get bored.

(1) I bought a Schwinn AirDyne Evolution about 5 years ago. I had an older, gold AirDyne, but it was noisy and it needed some repair. Anyway, this is how I got motivated to ride it on average 60 minutes daily: Where I have my weights, kettle bells, exercise bike, and foam roller is also where I have a bed and TV for when I want to take naps or watch a different TV channel than my wife does. I put earphones into the TV jack and spin away as I watch and listen to TV. The motivation occurs because if I am lying on the bed watching TV, and I haven't done any spinning, I just ask myself "Why can't you watch the same TV show and spin?" For whatever reason, since I started asking myself that question on a daily basis, I am almost always motivated to spin.
(2) AirDyne Evolutions are expensive, and I would not recommend them to someone who doesn't want to spend that much money on something that would take up too much room in the house or might just end up collecting dust. Here is why I do recommend one if a person wants only one device to give a full-body workout: with an Airdyne, one can work the upper body and/or the lower body. Because the handles move, a person is using arms and shoulders to propel the resistant wheel. If one wants to, he/she can put the feet on rests and just use the arms to get a good workout.
Anyway, very best of luck! I would think the swimming suit would be a good motivation tool for you. Maybe if ever week you took a photo of yourself and put it on the wall, you could keep motivating yourself for when you are in that boat, in your suit.

Welcome to Spark People ! When it comes to weight loss or weight gain, what matters most is what we eat. good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit and healthy. In short, you can't outrun a bad diet with exercise. If you want to take the weight off and keep it off, you have to eat right and watch your portion sizes.
Many people assume that as long as they exercise, they don't have to worry about what they eat because they'll just burn off the excess calories. that's no good. What happens when you become injured or bored ? You have to stop exercising. What to do ? First, you have to find an activity you really ENJOY. because when you enjoy doing something, you look forward to doing that something each and every day.
Be realistic. Don't tell yourself you're going to exercise for an hour every day. Before long, you will get frustrated and bored. Slowly ease into a routine so that your exercise will become just that, a routine. Don't take a class just because someone said you'll burn lots of calories. Do something you want to do for fun ! And don't over do it.
Here's the other reality about weight loss, you can't put your body on a schedule. Your body will decide how long it takes to lose 10-15 pounds. If you try to force your body to lose weight, it will fight you. Thus the reason to slowly take off the weight with a healthy diet.
What to do for exercise ? What sorts of activities do YOU enjoy ? Do you like dance ? take dance lessons. take a martial arts class. learn how to box. go swimming or cycling. How about skiing ? ice skating ? It doesn't matter what you do. You just need something that will help keep you active on a fairly regular basis.
And exercise really can be anything because like I said, when it comes to weight loss, good nutrition is what takes the weight off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit. And yes, strength training should be a part of your exercise routine. depending on what your personal fitness goals are, that could be 1-3 times per week.
try to set some realistic goals so that you don't end up frustrated or bored.
Hello- First time posting here! Ok, so a little about my exercise background...never liked it much, but started a program at my local park district early last year to lose a few pounds and tone up. I started taking spin classes, core strengthening classes and Body Pump. Noticed results after a few months (finally achieved holding a plank on my toes!!) and I lost weight. I did fine, then after a few months, lost interest, got lazy when summer came up, or just got busy with family, life, etc. and stopped going. I'd start up again, then a few months later, lose interest or get lazy again.
Flash forward to now, haven't gone to a class since early August, starting to lose the muscle I worked so hard for, gaining weight, etc. I can still hold the plank, but not as long as I used to. I remember how hard it was to achieve that and I don't want to lose it!
My problem? I'm bored! Bored with riding a bike for an hour, bored with lifting a barbell for an hour, etc. I do prefer taking classes because I feel better when there is a program planned out for me. I show up, do the program and go home! No need to worry about "am I exercising enough?" or "am I doing this exercise correctly?", you know? Also, I don't have the best balance, so I prefer to not take classes with a lot of steps to memorize (i.e using a step, dance steps). I always feel like I'm focused more on getting the steps right than doing the workout! Tried Zumba, total bust.
So anyway...looking for some suggestions on what you did to get motivated again. What exercises are really good for burning the fat, toning your butt, thighs, mid-section? Oh yeah, I'm going on vacation in December where I'll be on a boat wearing a bathing suit. That is my focus and time is of the essence, but I'm not psyched to go back to the classes. I guess I'm just stuck and need that push to get moving again. I think once I get going again, I'll be fine.
I'm looking to lose 15-20 lbs by then and I want to lose it steadily and healthy. Need a realistic and fun way of doing this! Thanks!!
