Yes, I too am 67, and have recently found out that I am prediabetic. My doctor keeps yammering on about the 'meditarrenean diet' which I think is nearly totally wrong because of the amount of carbs, etc. Sparkpeople has been a godsend, as I have already lost 10 pounds in a little over a month. I'm sure it is the proportions (percentages) of carbs, fats, proteins. I think if you eat each of your meals while on holiday with those percentages in mind (eyeballing), you should be ok. I would take a plastic 6 inch plate with me, and then simply slide your foods into imaginary compartments.
Anyway, my doctor doesn't know yet that I have lost this weight and I'm going to wait another 6 weeks before I go to see her. I have been fat for 27 years and holy smokes, it is coming off.

Hi, Janie! As diabetics, you need to focus on proteins, fruits and vegetables. Carbs are NOT your friend! I suggest heading over to the nutrition forum to check in with the dieticians!

I am 69. The past year I have gotten flabbier and my body is changing. My A1C is 6.4, so I guess it is not too bad. I need help and support. My hubby is diabetic, too. He doesn't follow any plan. I am going to Indian in July. I am afraid I will not be a good traveler. I need support so I will do what I am supposed to. thanks, Janie
