Hi, Nicole !
Have you set up your spark nutrition profile ? If not, you should fill out your profile and start logging the foods you eat. Studies have shown that people who log their food lose more weight than those who don't. Be honest. try to log everything. When you do that, the charts will show you if you are deficient in some areas. As a generality, I find most Americans as deficient when it comes to eating their fresh fruit and veggies.
One piece of advice I can give you to help YOU become a healthier you is to eat more servings of fresh fruit and veggies. If Americans should be overeating anything, it should be their veggies. For optimum health, a person should eat at least 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies each and every day. if that seems like too much, start with 2-3 servings and add a serving each week until you are eating 6-9 servings. Eating more veggies can help you to lose.
The fact is, there is a lot a person needs to learn about basic nutrition. Where to start ? How about you read some of the great Spark articles on nutrition ? Why not read at least one article each day. The articles will help teach you the basics of nutrition. Start with this one. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_art
As far as what to do for exercise, how about taking a daily walk ? there are members who will tell you how they lost 100+ pounds just by walking and watching what they ate. If you can't walk for 30 minutes, then try walking for 10 minutes. Walking for 10 minutes three times a day still adds up to a 30 minute workout. You can break up your workouts into shorter segments and still get all the benefits.
So, don't worry, start with small steps. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. there is a lot to learn, so take your time.
