One more thing - why not plan where you will eat yoru larger meals? That way you can checkout the websites ahead of time and plan what you will eat. Most restaurants have nutrition info online that you can use as a guide for your choices.

Since you are going to enjoy the city - enjoy all aspects of it. In moderation though! As someone noted, the portions are *huge*. I'd suggest splitting an entree and salad with a companion. Be as healthy as possible, but don't sweat it if you indulge a bit since you'll be doing lots of walking.

Since you will be doing a lot of walking, I would eat healthy for breakfast and lunch and enjoy a good dinner. We went on a cruise and were walking a huge amount and I ate whatever I wanted(no alcohol though I don't drink) and didn't gain any weight.

I mostly agree with everyone else. Indulge on some meals, and go light on others. I was in NYC last year, and had several wonderful, indulgent dinners, including dessert, and didn't gain any long term weight from it. You are right, we walked a TON and we also took advantage of the gym in the hotel to burn off some of those dinners. We had a Whole Foods close to us, and picked up some stuff from there to have healthy breakfasts and snacks. Have fun, NYC is fantastic!!

Depends on why you are going to NYC. Are you going to eat or are you going to see the rich, beautiful sites? There is good food in your own town. Seems like NYC is for site seeing. Save your calories and soak in the scenery

To me a trip like this it is nice to enjoy some nicer/indulgent foods. That being said it does not have to be to an extreme. At one meal if you have a rich entree the next meal you can have a healthier choice. You can have a drink but limit it, have part of a dessert,so on. NYC most of the portions are very large so watching that as well.

I think you have to decide how important your fitness goals are. If you really want to get fit, then you must watch what you eat. If you are not that concerned then go out and eat what you want. I suggest eating right most of the time. Select fish, chicken or other lean meats with vegetables and fruits. If you are eating right most of the time, allow your self a drink, or cheat meal. just don't over do it!

I'm just wondering if I should worry about my calories on my trip to
NYC. I know calories are listed in lots of restaurants which is great but I also know I'll be walking non stop and probably burning more cals/ I'll want to enjoy nice dinners, have martinis and special treats that I can only get in NYC. What do you think my best bet is to maintain while away?
