I read your post and I get it :) I'm here for the same reasons so welcome.
Tracking what I eat every day helps keep me honest, but it also helps me think about what I'm eating and whether or not I'm in a rut (chicken every day for a week) or if I'm not as balanced in my diet as I'd like to be.
I set up my fitness goals so that SP factors my activity into it's recommendations for calories/fat/carbs/protein. I find that I'm lucky in that those SP recommendations seem to give me the best results.
I'm also really trying to focus on eating fresh, whole foods instead of packaged/processed stuff and that seems to be helping.
Now if only I could get my coworkers to stop offering me food every day.

I agree with everyone else. Tracking seems like a gigantic pain some days, but I do it anyways. It really does help and keep me accountable to myself. The biggest thing that has helped me though is remembering that it takes time. I started last summer and lost a few pounds, but when it wasn't going as fast as I wanted, I completely stopped and gave up (seems so stupid now :) I understand that it takes time and now, 6 months and 20 pounds later) I feel a million times better, but I still have those days where I struggle. One other thing is to remember where you started. When you first started did you struggle to run a mile? Are you finding it easier to jog that mile than before? Those are the real things that keep me motivated. I used to laugh when people said to focus on non-weight related progress, I wasn't interested in anything but losing weight. But now I understand what they meant. When I started at the beginning of this year, I could barely lift a 3 pound weight in my classes. Now I regularly use 5-8 and even got myself up to a 10 on some. I can go faster on the bike in one of my classes. I can do a full minute of burpies without stopping. All of those things make a huge difference in keeping me motivated, more so than just the weight.

Great advice so far!! I hope you will realize that you are already on your way...dropping the soda pop is a Major Change, and you should be proud of yourself for both that and your treadmill work! If you can jog one mile, and then walk two more...exercise is not your issue...so focus on what and when you are eating. Most of your weight loss will come from that. I really echo using the Tracker if you are not doing so! Finding the balance of Carbs/Fat/Protein will help you feel better and your weight can come off safely.
One reminder is to set your time-to-goal conservatively. Fast weight loss makes us get excited--however slow weight loss will be what stays. As you start dropping and getting closer to your healthy weight, you will find that the rate of loss slows also. one pound --or even a half pound-- a week will become your normal....! Aim for a healthy life--get rid of thinking you need to "diet". You don't! You need to eat right so you will enjoy today, and many healthy days to come. And, just like the soda and exercise--You Can DO This!! patti
PS Organic is really nice and healthier--BUT--not necessary, especially if finances are tight. By itself, it won't alter your weight!
I second tracking everything! It's the only way I can lose weight. Exercise will also help speed the process, but you need to both track your food and exercise to lose weight quickly (2 lb a week is healthy). Also try to get more leafy greens into your diet, and drink more water.
Try to get some form of exercise in daily - and make sure you get your heart rate up and sweat a bit.

I started at 199 just about a year ago and am now 129ish (with maybe a couple more pounds to go--we'll see). I lost those 70 lbs. by tracking every single thing I put in my mouth. I also started running at about the same time, doing the Couch to 5k program, and then started strength training (mostly body weight exercises) a couple of months earlier. In retrospect, I would have started the ST sooner, but I think the real key is tracking your food and staying within your ranges most of the time. Good luck!

My biggest tips are:
1. Track everything. Run the Daily Nutrition Feedback every day. Not only does this help to keep you on track, but over time it will help you to learn what really does and does not work for you personally.
2. Develop an exercise plan for each week. For me, an hour a day, six days a week is a minimum. I try to include strength training 2-3 days/per week and I also try to alternate high and low-impact exercises. Raise your exercise intensity over time.
3. Set small goals and implement changes over time. If you try to change everything about your lifestyle all at once, you will fail. Pick one thing to work on, develop a new habit and get it to stick before you try anything else.

To get straight to the point, I am looking to lose what I consider to be quite a bit of weight. I currently weigh 185 lbs. and am looking to weigh 140 lbs. which is right where I "should" be, and where I previously was before. I struggle with this on-going "diet" and would really like some advice. Anything. What helped you to lose weight most efficiently? I have cut out all soda pop, which was a huge challenge to me. And am working out on my treadmill DAILY. Yesterday I jogged 1 mile and walked 2. I know I am not going to see changes overnight. I guess I'm just sick and tired of feeling disgusting. Out of breath, exhausted all of the time, and winded from a few stairs. I've been trying to stay away from bread and pasta for a little bit, and eating more salad. I am currently considering going organic with my grocery shopping but have read the pros and cons and know it does cost quite a bit extra. Any advice would be appreciated! ! !
