You are turly an inspiration to me. First, you work third shift. I could not do it. I was so cranky. Second, you are going to school. I want to go back to school and complete my CDL. I have a class B but want and class A. Third, like me you are a working mom. My hat is off to you.

I loved your story from yesterday. It is so true that we all lead busy life's. It is impossible to finish that big "to do" list each day. However, If we are creative and learn how to multitask we can accomplish so much more. When it comes to working out the hardest part is always getting dressed and getting started. Once you swim that first lap or walk the first 5 minutes you start feeling motivated to do even more. Keep up the good work.
You are my inspiration for this Am.!!!!!! I have just started my journey and joined the "Y". They have 2 beautiful indoor pools with lap lanes blocked off for people who just want to do laps. I wasn't sure of how many you had to do to make a mile and then...... here you are. Thank you. I'm not crazy about exercising.... but I do love to swim. Mixed with a yoga class 2x a week should put me in great shape after some time.... Thank you again!!! Kate
That's brilliant! Well done you! I joined my local swimming pool last week. Typically, this week, I have a cold so can't actually go swimming, but as soon as I'm better I'll be back in the pool. I want to start off with once a fortnight, then once a week, then maybe build up to a couple of times a week. Good luck with your mile! x

That is wonderful !! way to go!! I am 66 and weigh 104 kilos I don't care what people think any more ..what is more important is my health and well being .. I was going to be fitted up for a wheelchair three yrears ago ..I start going to Body profiles (that was couches you were helped up on and they did the work for you) this actually helped me so much ..then they closed down !! so last october decided to go to the heated pool and do aquarobics and swimming .. and I havn't looked back !! still have a wheelie walker but walk my dog and go to the pool everyday ..lots of people like me !! and none of us care what we look like as long as we can move !! good luck and keep it up this is the best thing that you can do .. no pain !! water is weightless and so are we .. go for it .. Wow! When I first saw how many laps it would take to make a mile at the pool I went to, I didn't even get in! But guess what? After reading your post, I'm jumping in today. In October they have a "lazy man's marathon", so that is what I will be working to achieve! Thanks for the motivation!
YAY!!! Go you! I never want to get into the pool either, even though I think swimming is the best exercise ever! I am now making a goal...within the next 2 weeks, I am going to go to the gym and get INto that pool! Thanks for the inspiration!
TRULY an inspiration! Kinda made me see that I need to try a LOT harder to accomplish my day to day but that I CAN get it done! If nothing else at least the excercise part.. I mean for goodness' sake, I have a river for a front yard & taking the pups for a swim every other day or so just isn't good enough. I need to get out there & race those dogs when they are chasing after their ball, not just kick back & relax! And as for combining things that need to be done, I'm sure I could do that too if I would only STOP letting rejection/failure get in my way of getting things done! You are such an inspiration to us all, KEEP IT UP!!!!
Wow, what is so great is not so much that you did 34 laps, but that with all you had going on you did not give in to any of the excuses and found a way to achieve your goal of exercising. we all lead such busy and demanding lives, you proved it can be done. very motivating.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I am so happy that some of you said you are going to try to swim because I inspired you!! I have been so inspired by people on Spark that I am glad I could inspire someone else! My best friend at work decided to do the laps at her pool too! Thank you all for your support!!!! That's amazing! I always feel so self-conscience in a bathing suit I'd never have even gone to the pool. We have one in our development and I never go.

So yesterday I was so stressed...I had the BIGGEST pile of laundry in the laundry room and only yesterday to get it done...I had to work from 11p-7a...I had promised the kids that I would take them to the pool...I wanted to study for my CEN...and I needed to either walk on the treadmill OR I needed to find a new exercise to do instead of the treadmill...SO with all of this to do I needed to find a way to combine things...
I was getting my bathing suit on (not to go in the pool but to lay out once I got there) and I decided that I would take my CEN books and study while the kids swam...ok so one combination done...then I thought to myself "wait a second...why not swim a few laps and count that as an exercise!!" So I looked it up and it would take 64 laps to make a mile...so I decided that I probably couldn't do a mile and that is ok but I COULD do a 1/2mile...I looked up the calories I would burn doing breast stroke and surprisingly it was the same amount of calories as doing 3.5 miles an hour for 3.5 miles....
When I got to the pool I thought to myself " I don't know if I can do this" "people are looking at me"...My kids decided that they were going to swim with me which felt good...since I have so many kids the lap lane was a little crowded but it was ok because I had a team! The 1st 2 laps I thought I was going to die! But then after that I started feeling great...I lost my "team" after about the 1st 5 laps but it was fine...they kept coming back to visit...I did it...I did 1/2 mile in a 1/2 hour and I felt great! I need goggles though ...my eyes were killing me!
I have decided to get up to a mile before the end of the summer...I am so proud of myself...this journey for me started out as a way to donate my kidney and has become so much more...I feel better about who I am...I feel more confident and for the 1st time in my life I LIKE to exercise...I have never ever felt the way I feel about my body...am I happy with how I look, well no, but am I happy that I am becoming healthier ...yes...No matter how this journey ends for me and Jeff I am going to be healthier and happier than I have ever been and I will be a better wife and mother...Thank God for Sparkpeople and St Joe's nightshift because without the support of those 2 places and my family and God I would still be stuck in my old ways...
Who would have thought that swimming 32 laps could bring me to such huge realizations and make me feel so wonderful
