Hello again! Time is just flying. I'm posting early today because I'm going out tonight (uh oh!). Food today was: -about 1/2 cup of grapes -multigrain cheerios with skim milk -cup of coffee -a little over a cup of veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers -small handful of almonds -dinner: buffalo chicken pita (previously described) -steeped tea
I didn't exercise today because I didn't sleep well, had/have lots of work to do, and I'm just tired. Don't want to burn out. I'll do lots of dancing tonight though. ;) Peace!

Hi everyone! It's late. Today was a long day. Approaching twenty hours here! As today was a long day, I had more food than yesterday. However, I got a good strength workout and even a two little spurts of cardio.
I ate: -100 cal fiber bar -early lunch: meal from Edo (530 calories. Edo is a treat meal for me.) -a few peppers -earlyish dinner: small portion of ginger beef, roasted baby potatoes, assorted steamed veggies. -steeped tea -after my strength workout: 12 ounces of skim milk and a handful of almonds and walnut pieces. -handful of red grapes, smaller handful of green grapes -a few snow peas -slice of marble cheese -about 10 tostito chips with salsa -babybel cheese (the two cheeses came with the grapes I bought... ahaha) -small bowl of multigrain cheerios with skim milk
For exercise: -broke a world record today! My school won back the record for largest dodgeball game ever played, with almost 5000 people. Haha. That entailed standing and shuffling around for two hours, and only about ten minutes of play. But it was fun. -walking around campus to and from classes and such. Probably a solid 50 mins of walking. -strength workout -went for a quick jog with my friend
In case anyone was wondering, I'll tell you what my strength workouts usually entail. I do them in my room, so I've only got a space of about 3 feet by 8 feet. They last about 40-70 minutes and almost always go something like this: 1) jump and dance and run around like a crazy person to get my heart rate up. I usually do a lot of pretend skipping, because that really gets your heart pumping. Jumping jacks, butt kicks, high knees, etc. 2) alternate above craziness with light stretching. 3) work my glutes and the backs of my thighs because those are my main problem areas! I do a few different things. I've only been doing these workouts for a few weeks and I already notice a difference there. If anyone is curious about what moves I do, just ask. 4) get my heart pumping hard again, usually by pretend skipping. (By that I mean pretending to jump rope.) Then I work my arms with dumbbells and pushups. I do a ton of different dumbbell exercises, and between each one I do some jumping around for a little, to keep my heart beating fast. I try not to leave more than 30 seconds between moves though. 5) I usually alternate between arms and legs. So I'll do a set of squats, then a set for my arms, then a set of lunges, and so on. I usually don't work my legs too hard though. They're already pretty big, and they get a good workout from all the jumping anyway. 6) I do supermans, planks, attempt to do some more push-ups or more glute exercises. 7) Finish with core! I do crunches, that one where you lie on your back and life your legs up and down, more planks, and then I do my obliques by holding my little medicine ball with both hands and basically crunching side to side (that's my all-time favourite move). 8) Stretch!
So yeah. I sort of work everything all at once. Today it took me about 45 minutes. I love doing these workouts. I like doing it this way because the next day, everything is just a little sore, and I wake up feeling like I had a really good workout. I don't like wrecking individual body parts on different days, because personally I dislike constantly being in pain. And I like doing this because it's super fast paced- so much so that it's a cardio workout too. It just makes me feel good. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. :)
I'm going out tomorrow, so that should be pretty bad. I will try to make good choices though. :P
Holy moly long post. They won't all be this long. :P

It is so sad! A lot of the students can't have fun unless they're drinking. I like to actually talk to my friends, and do fun things! It's especially unhealthy because a ton of kids drink all night, binge on really bad food, and then cure their hangovers with advil or tylenol. Dealing with something that drugs did to you with other drugs is just crazy. I've heard that taking tylenol with alcohol increases the damage to your liver like tenfold. I'm just glad I have some good close friends here that feel the same way as I do about partying, and I'm glad I'm serious about school and don't let myself get peer pressured into being "social." :)
I think it is sad that college students drink so much. Really something in years to come they will pay for. I'm 62 and certainly glad I never did that to my body back when I was that age, as now I need all the brain cells I can come up with. LOL

Thank you very much! :D I hope it's contagious! It's a good thing to spread.
My day is far from over but I just really feel like posting! Today has been pretty great. My first meal was a vegetarian panini, which isn't the best choice, but I needed something on the run and it just had veggies and some feta cheese. I had some steeped tea as well. Since then I've only had snacks. I've had a handful of raw unsalted almonds, a handful of assorted peppers, a handful of snow peas, and a little thing of unsweetened apple sauce. And now I'm having a glass of red wine. I walked pretty fast today for about 50 minutes because I went to buy groceries! And I puttered around in the store for another half hour, but I don't think that really counts as walking. :P I'm pretty sore from working out the other day so I'm not going to do anything else.
I bought some really good stuff today! Peppers, snow peas, veggie medley (it has broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots I think), oatmeal, fiber 100 calorie bars, almonds, walnuts and a can of green beans! All dorm room friendly things. Can't do very much cooking here, haha.
I think I'll have an extreme pita for dinner. I'll probably edit this post later. Sooooo bye! :D
Edit: I did indeed have a pita for dinner. It was a buffalo chicken pita from extreme pita, which is in my residence building. I get these a lot. This is what's in it: chicken, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, a little cheddar cheese, a little bit of light ranch, and a little hot sauce. And a brown pita! So I dunno, but it sounds and tastes pretty healthy to me. It has like 330 calories or something in it, lots of the veggies and it's seriously the best thing ever. :) I had a little gingerbread cookie for 150 calories or somethin' like that, and I'm about to go to bed. So not really a bad day! :) I feel like I ate more than I did. Maybe almonds do even more good stuff than I thought. Haha anyway, goodnight all! I plan to do a strength workout tomorrow sometime after my lab.

Oh hi there! Tracy here. :) The main reason I joined this site was actually to have a progress journal, so here I am! I am 18, female, live in residence at University in Canada, am 5"9, and weight about 150 pounds. Some background info....
I used to run all the time in high school, but as soon as the second round of midterms hit me this year (not to mention the -30 weather), I pretty much stopped. Since then my exercise has been very sporadic and sparse. Over the past few weeks I've been doing some full-body strength training every few days, just in my room. Old school stuff like push-ups and squats and dumbbell exercises and crunches. It's making me feel so good. :) I need to do more cardio again though. As for food, I try to make healthy choices, but I could do MUCH better. It honestly is so difficult in residence to have enough willpower, but it is absolutely possible. The main reason I want to eat well is because obviously, it makes me feel good! I notice a huge difference in how I feel from day to day depending on what I eat.
So yeah! I want to lose fat and become stronger. I want to get smaller too, but I'm focusing on feeling good. So this is my journal and I will try to write in it every day. :) I'm not going to calorie count or be OCD about this stuff, but I want to be aware of what I'm putting into my body!
Note: Please keep in mind if you are going to read or comment or anything, I am a University kid. It's really tough to have healthy habits here. I drink and party significantly less than the majority of kids here, but I do have some great friends here and we do like to go out and drink and such sometimes. I know how bad alcohol is, especially if you're trying to lose weight. So please, if I happen to drink a whole bottle of red wine once in a while, don't try to tell me about how bad it is, because I already know! ;D Same deal with certain foods. I don't need to be told that pizza is bad for me. I am young, but I'm not stupid! I am here because I want to keep track of my stuff for me. Support and help is obviously appreciated, but please be nice. :)
SO. It is February 1st, 2012. (Well, technically it's the 2nd now.) Tomorrow I will make my first post about my food and exercise for the day! So I'm excited! Yay! Healthy lifestyle! Yeah!
