Don't give up! everyone has given you great advice and all I can say is "stay on course!" Slow and steady is the best way to lose.

Today was not a successful day for me but I know that tomorrow is a new day and a brand new beginning!

Take a deep breath. I won't repeat the advice the others gave you, but it is good advice.

I will say that you've done so much hard work, it seems a shame to give it all up because of a couple of days and something you recognize as likely water weight from extra sodium anyway.

Also, I know you said that you've eaten the same as your boyfriend (husband? Fiance?). I know I used to do that all the time. Considering I'm 5'6" and he's 6'2", that was a bad idea. He can (and needs to) eat more calories than I do. So, if you meant you're eating the same amount as him, you may want to enter that into the nutrition tracker and see where you really are in calories for those days.

BUT, that still shouldn't be 4 lbs in 4 days. That'd be an extra 3500 calories per day. emoticon

Quit? Pfft. Why let something so inconsequential hold you back from your long-term goals?

You already know that you did not really gain four pounds of fat. So trust in yourself and the process.

Keep doing the right things. And the results will come.

You can do this!

DREYA58,

Take a deep breathe, don't worry you did NOT gain 4 pounds of fat this week. As Coach Nancy mentioned, what you're experiencing is nothing more than a temporary water weight gain. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? No, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

To really gain 4 pounds of fat, a person would need to eat an extra 14,000 calories on top of their normal daily intake. one pound of fat = 3,500 calories. So, if you know you didn't eat that much food, then you know you didn't gain fat.

I can easily gain 3-4 pounds in a day. These types of fluctuations on the scale are perfectly normal.

Also, don't compare your weight loss to your hubby's. He WILL lose more quickly than you and not because he's eating better. It's because he's male and carries more lean muscle than you. The more muscle a person has, the more efficient their body will be at burning fat.

So, don't beat on yourself because you aren't losing as fast as he is. At some point, his weight loss will slow down too.

DREYA58,

Remember out weight is not a static number. Our body's weight is meant to fluctuate according to many factors--nutrition, exercise, hormones and hydration, just to name a few.

When we have a rapid gain, or loss for this matter, it is usually due to a shift in fluid. True weight gain doesn't happen that quickly.

Hang in there!
Nancy

Hi all, Over the past four days I have gained 4 pounds! I know that seems very shallow, whats 4 pounds right. But I am under 5 ft and 4 pounds is a HUGE difference for me. I have eaten the exact same thing as my hubby and he has LOST 4 pounds. Grrrr. I know that men lose weight differently than a woman, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. I know this weight gain is most likely due to sodium. I am within my calorie intake, I just feel like my goals are a lost cause. I have been struggling between 140 and 145 for months. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and declare the scale the winner. emoticon
