Great suggestions Hunna. I find the tape measure, clothing fit and pictures to be much more accurate for determining gains and losses.
I have been hovering at around 124 for 2 years now. I am not trying to lose weight just maintain. I have lost two pants sizes in those two years and my core and upper body are leaner than before as well.
So keep at it, losing fat and gaining muscle is what it's all about!
Find your favorite pair of jeans and try them on weekly, even take pictures. My scale didn't budge for the first month or so, but the pants got more loose by the week. Get a measuring tape from the craft section of a store and take measurements. I find it much more satisfying knowing I lost an inch or two off my hips/thighs over losing .2 lbs!!!

Muscle gain is fastest in the first several weeks. After a while it gets harder and harder to put on more, so given the same rate of fat loss, weight loss should pick up speed.
But trading fat for muscle is a good thing, methinks. Keep it up!
Nobody who says "muscle weighs more than fat" mean a pound of one vs a pound of the other.
Does lead weigh more than aluminum? Do I weigh more than you? Does gold weigh more than silver?
We regularly and habitually state one thing "weighs more than" some other thing and in no case when we do that are we saying "a pound of this weighs more than a pound of that".
The argument against the statement "muscle weighs more than fat" is nonsensical. It does. Show me equal volumes of muscle and fat and we'll weigh them - the muscle will weigh more than the fat.

I agree, you are most likely losing inches all over, which is why friends and family can see a difference in your appearance. That saying "muscle weighs more than fat" just plain bugs me. A pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat. Fat kinda sprawls out and hangs all over the place, whereas muscle is lean, trim, and won't take up as much room. Keep doing what you're doing!
It's more likely water. You're losing fat (hence looking better) but retaining some water in your muscles (hence weight loss is masked).
The water does disappear by about 6-8 weeks, so keep at it! You are still making progress!

When you start an exercise plan your muscles will hold on to water temporarily, usually 6-8 weeks. This will cause the scale to appear to either stay the same or go up, which can be majorly disheartening.
Have you been taking measurements? chances are, even if your weight stays the same, you have been losing fat and, therefore, inches. Some gyms will do calipers or have one of those handle held thing-a-muh-jiggers that will tell you your body fat percentage. This can be a better way to measure progress than a number on the scale.

for about 3 weeks I've been working out for about 50 minutes every night and watching my eating habits a little more carefully. My friends and family say they can see a difference in how I look. However the number on the scale is staying the same. Would this be because muscle weighs more than fat?
