Yes, really mix it up. Get a mat, stability ball, and some bands. For $50 you can get enough equipment for a constant mix up. Spark has all kinds of videos. You could use machine to warm up on 15 minutes then 20 min video, and finish with a good stretch.
I think it's a good idea. 40-45 minutes of cardio at the same pace isn't the most effective use of your time anyway. When you are strength training, you could try working in some cardio between sets, so that your heart rate stays elevated. That way, you will be making the most of your time by getting cardio and ST in one session. I like to jump rope between strength exercises since it's easy to use the rope almost anywhere and a minute of fast jumping rope is intense and gets the heart rate up quickly.
Also, if you Google "HIIT" and "Tabata" you will find lots of information on short, intense exercise, and how effective it is at burning fat and increasing aerobic capacity.

Sounds ok to me. I sometimes like to do cardio 3 or 4 days & ST the other days, alternating; but when I went to a gym I'd do both cardio & ST on same days. Cardio could be spin, yoga or pilates classes or doing treadmill or stationary bike (both of which I hate). I must prefer to be outside & walk, run or bike.

I'm not sure, but that seems like it would be just as effective as the longer workouts. The most effective workout is one that you can do consistently. My method for not getting bored while on the elliptical, etc. is to read my Kindle. It takes my mind off what I'm doing and the time passes quickly. You could read a magazine or listen to music. I have had good results with Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred video. In 30 days I lost 8 pounds and 9 inches and I could really tell a difference in my arm muscles and abs. I have been keeping the same workout routine for sometime and wanted to mix it up a little to fight my lack of motivation. I normally workout 4 times a week due to my hectic work schedule. 2 days of elliptical for 40 minutes and 2 days of strength training dvd for 45 minutes. I am starting to get bored with the continous 40-45 minutes of one workout each time and find myself avoiding the workouts...So tonight I decided to mix it 20 minutes cardio/25 strength traning. I did enjoy mixing up the time as it did not seem to drag out as long. I am going to attempt to do this my regular 4 times a week. Do you think this is as effective breaking the times up since each routine requires a certain amount of time for stretching and cool down each time that eats into the total workout time? Also one of my goals is to become more toned and defined because although I have lost weight, I am not happy with how my body looks as it lacks ALOT of toning. Appreciate any tips to help me with the restricted time to work out.
