I am not in the military yet, but through the help of SparkPeople, I'm working on getting in shape to join the Navy in December. I have a degree in Flute Performance and am going to audition for the fleet bands. Assuming I pass, I will be signing my papers at the end of the year. :)

I am a veteran of the Navy. I served active duty from 1983 - 1991 and did the reserves for a few years. I was a PR - Parachute Rigger. My hubby was also a Rigger. He just retired after 30 years of active duty.

I am currently an undergrad, but am looking forward to joining the Canadian Armed Forces after graduation, as a Public Affairs Officer. The main reason I am on Sparkpeople is to be in suitable shape for recruitment in my final year of University.

It's a natural choices for me, though a difficult one for my family. I was raised in a military family. My great-grandfather fought for Britain in Vimy Ridge, my great-uncle served in the Canadian Army in WWII, my grandfather was with the Canadian Naval Signal Corps during WWII. My father unfortunately was not able to serve due to a lazy eye and a lame shoulder, but I grew up going to Legion events, attending ceremonies and fundraisers and volunteering for the Legion.

I am aiming for the position of Public Affairs Officer to better the public's understanding of what goes on in our Armed Forces, but I would be honoured to serve in any capacity.

I am a military brat - retired Navy father, two Marine Corps brothers, Air Force son-in-law, and married to a retired Army service member! I have just finished 36 years of Federal service which encompasses working with Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Bureau of Reclamation. Proud to have served -- praying daily for all our troops who are defending our freedom!!

Has anybody served in the military? If so, which service did you serve in and for how long? I am currently in the Naval Reserves. I am with the United States Naval Construction Battalions "Seabee" (NMCB18). I have been in the Navy for 22 yrs. Six of the years were served on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) --- active duty and the other 16 years were served with the "Bees". I am currently an E6 (First Class Petty Officer). I have a green light to retire but I am planning on staying in (I love what I do). Until then.......
