When I saw your topic, "Migraines and Staying on Track" I clicked immediately, because like you, and many others, I suffer from migraines.
My best advice is to be as nice to yourself as possible. Give yourself the love and encouragement you would give to a friend or a family member who struggles. It is okay if you get off track for a day or two, but, just keep coming back to Spark and remember why a physical routine (even a modest one) helps for migraines.
You can do it.

From my own experience I found out that dehydration can cause headaches, so now I drink lots of water. Pre-diabetes and diabetes can cause headaches and so can improper nutrition.
I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic several years ago and since I have now been eating low carb and balancing my blood sugar my migraines are totally gone.
No food is a proven headache cure but maybe keep a log of the foods you eat and see what could be triggering your migraine. I see you track your exercise....maybe try tracking the food you eat.
My doctor told me that using olive oil in moderation and eating other omega 3 foods can reduce the frequency and the severity of headaches. He told me to eat turkey, tuna and add sesame seeds to salads and veggies daily to reduce headaches they have magnesium to help headaches as well as mushrooms, broccoli, and spinach, sweet potato and sunflower seeds...and to spice things with Rosemary....I use a little everyday still.
Fluctuating blood sugar can cause headaches, so balance your sugar levels by eating a small carb and a protein. Add vinegar to your daily diet as it helps balance blood sugar. Sometimes just a cup of hot chocolate might help you lessen the pain, it did me and my neighbor grabs a cup to try to ward off migraines....
I agree with AZULVIOLETA6...that Aspartame which is in Artificial sweeteners can also trigger a migraine. There was just a discussion on the boards about artificial sweeteners being safe.....sorry, I don't touch the stuff.
It is made up of three chemicals.... Aspartic Acid, Phenylalanine and Methanol, and they are actually poisons.....look them up on a web search....I don't eat anything sugar free anymore either as I tend to stay on the side of caution since I have been exposed to the chemical Methanol which is a wood alcohol and know what it can do.....
I also agree with the poster who takes a magnesium pill....Have you had you magnesium and vitamin D levels checked......

I have had terrible migraines since I was 17. One thing that has made a huge difference is that I never vary the time I get out of bed in the morning. Sounds simple, but the slightest change in that routine instantly means migraines. No sleeping in for me. Doesn't matter what time I go to bed, but I cannot vary the wakeup time.
Another thing that seems to help is Red ROOIBOS tea. It tastes a little nutty, but grows on you. If I take it at the very onset, it helps relieve some of it.
Its been a lifetime of just trying to find any kind of solution and the only thing I've found is that every migraine sufferer is completely different. I myself cannot tolerate the meds, so I look for alternative solutions.

Yes, I have migraines. I am also a cerebral aneurysm survivor and I've had brain surgery twice.
You have to exercise...and push yourself through it even when you can barely get out of bed. During the years when my migraines were the worst, exercise was the only thing that kept me going. Consistent hydration makes a HUGE difference too. I now drink 10-12 glasses of water a day and that seems to help a lot. I actually get a lot more liquid since I do not count milk, coffee or other liquids as "water."
If you haven't looked into migraine trigger foods and the low-tyramine diet, that is worth checking out...and it is something that your doctor might not have told you about. My triggers seem to be raisins, peanuts, meat preservatives and aspartame. I can have about a serving of raisins or peanuts a week...any more than that and I will get a headache.
Another thing that I will throw out there just in case you are not aware--hormonal birth control can make migraines MUCH worse. Mine improved drastically when I stopped taking birth control pills.
hi girl! I to get about 8-13 migraines a month I can't jump back into gear like I used to since I hit my 40's. Walking has been the best for me but it is so hard to get back on track when one hits any excersice that jiggles my head will give me a migraine. I eat about 1600 cal a day but I cant get the sugar addiction down dangit!! so I haven't lost any weight I would go to the doctors but really what could they do with me with all these migraines...lol anyway now that I vented to you feel free to vent all you want to me!! I'm a good hear...lol. hope to hear from you!

I get chronic migraines, about 3-4 a week. As soon as I feel one coming on I take my migraine medicine and go into a dark room and lay down for about 1-2 hours. A cold wash cloth on the forehead helps too. It about 65% of my migraines they're gone in about a hour. I just try to workout around them. I rarely have migraines between 9am and 12pm so I try to fit in some exercise then. I also take 3 1200mg Fish oil pill, 2 - 250 magnesium pills, B-complex pill, and a calcium pill and I've noticed it has helped in the severity and length of my migraines. Yoga is also a good exercise to do to relax your body and help ward off migraines. Basically just do what you can when you can.
It is what it is, or is it?

I have chronic daily migraines. Some days are better than others. I just do what I can each day. If I have a horrible migraine (the kind where you can't even lift your head off the pillow), I don't feel like eating much anyway, so I don't feel guilty about not exercising that day.
Honestly, exercise is what helps me cope with the migraines. The endorphins help fight pain and keep me thinking positively. On days I wake up without a migraine, I try to get in an exercise session before one hits. It helps me to set a reasonable goal of fitness minutes for each week. I also promised myself little rewards for reaching goals - a new lipstick, a new fitness DVD, etc.
Just go slowly and listen to your body. Perhaps you could ask your doctor for recommendations? My neurologist recommended taking a walk every day to help cope and control the migraines and that is what got me started. She also had me keep a headache journal detailing meds, exercise minutes, and headache severity for each day.

I have a friend who gets awful migraines. She's told me that some days they are so bad, she can barely drag herself out of bed. What does she do ? Like you, she goes to her doctor, takes medication and tries to exercise when she can. She copes as best she can. That's all she really can do.
If you find your exercise program sidelined because of the migraines, then on those days, you need to do your best to eat right and watch your portions. While exercise is a very important component of our healthy lifestyle, when it comes to gaining or losing weight, what matters most is what we eat. So, if you find you can't exercise, then try to be mindful of your portions.
When you feel the migraine subsiding, then you can try to exercise. If you can exercise 5 out of 7 days, that's still really good. You don't have to exercise every single day to be healthy. So, why not exercise more vigorously one days you don't have a migraine, that might work for you.
Does anybody here have chronic migraines and if you do, how do you stay on track? I have at least one bad one a week and most of the time two bad ones a week. I go to a doctor and we're doing the best we can at getting them lined out. I know exercise will help it eventually. My problem is, I'll get started for a couple of days and then get a migraine and can't do anything for a couple of days. And then I have trouble getting it going again. Anybody else deal with this? How do you handle it?
