You are not dumb! But weight loss and body composition is complex. LOL, Ok, the easy version... Your body is composed of muscle, bone, fat, water, waste products etc. The amounts of each vary depending on your gender, height, weight, and what you eat ie how much salt and other foods that need more water to digest.
The more overweight you are, the more water your body retains. When you lose weight you are hopefully, losing fat and water, not muscle and bone.
When we start working out and watching our diet a couple of things happen.
In terms of diet, we usually eat better so we cut down our salt intake. So we dump a little water. Exercise gets stuff moving, so we evacuate our bowels more and get fluid in our tissues moving so we pee more.
With exercise we usually see a temporary increase in our temperature so we burn off a little more water.
Water and waste products add weight and add bulk. Ever notice how your jeans fit better after you poop?
Add that in to your fantastic weight loss of 1.5 pounds per week then you will see a big shift in your measurements.
And yes, it's a lot more complicated than that but it does explain why we can see inches lost vs pounds. So it's good to track both!

Weight is important, but losing inches is more important! That's my opinion.

Toning muscle helps burn fat, but muscle weight is still weight. I am thrilled you are seeing such great results! Slow weight loss is ALWAYS better than rapid. Be happy you are on the right track!

I personally would ALWAYS prefer a DROP in INCHES and won't sweat the lbs. Clothes fit better, look better, and I feel better! The scale is just the scale. It's an inanimate object that cannot tell what's going on internally!

I'm lazy so I only use the scale to measure my progress but I can feel my clothes getting loser and can feel a few bones that used to be well hidden. I noticed when I first was losing weight it appeared to come off my face, waist and chest pretty quickly and I was surprised that it did not show up as pounds off the scale. Maybe some redistribution went on or that perhaps it was just more noticeable in certain areas. Still I was disappointed that the scale wasn't moving as fast as I hoped but then I realizes that there are many ways to measure success. Being able to move easier and workout longer is just as important to me than the pounds lost.
Can someone explain this to me like I'm dumb? The scale is not moving very fast for me, but is moving at an acceptable pace of 1.5lbs per week. I'm losing inches like crazy though. In 2 weeks, I've lost an inch off my waist, 2 inches off my bust, nearly 2.5 inches off of my chest and 1.5 inches off of my hips. But I've only lost 3.5 pounds in that time frame. So, I'm losing inches, but where is it going? How is it that sometimes you can lose inches but not pounds? I just don't understand LOL
