For the average person weighing daily may not be a problem, and can even be helpful, but the OP has noted her 'addiction' to weighing. Also, she mentioned ".....I don't eat as many calories as I'm supposed to in a day". Given the comment about the scales, and the comment about not eating enough, I think it is best to remove the scales. Disordered Eating issues can easily become a problem, if they aren't already.

I must respectfully disagree about not weighing daily. When I quit weighing daily I gained 40#s.
Some of us need that daily accountability to stay on track. I read a study today that said people who weighed daily lost an average of 12 pounds per year without trying. It's the mental wake up call that you are gaining or that yes, you really do weigh that much.
But..weigh once a day, in the morning. That's it. No second weigh in later in the day as it will be higher and drive you nuts.
Also eat in the middle of your range and make sure you have adjusted your range for the amount and intensity of your exercise.
And be kind to yourself. You did NOT put the weight on in a week or a month. You are not going to lose it a month or a week.
Hang in there and it will happen. Remember if you quit you just have to start again! And continuing is better than quitting.

Yes I must admit I am addicted to my scale as well, I really do need to put it away and start concentrating on other things. I have begun taking the staris at work. This will happen one day at a time.

You don't have your food diary posted. Have you been logging your food ? If so, would you be willing to open your food diary to let us (the spark community) take a look ? Because we don't know anything about you or your eating/exercise habits, it's possible that your boyfriend could be correct. I know this is going to sound strange, but a person has to eat in order to lose weight. While it's true that most Americans eat too much and need to eat less, the problem is that htey are eating too much of the wrong foods and not enough of the right foods.
Quality off the food you eat has a bigger impact on your waistline than quantity. I know that sounds strange too. But the fact is, weight loss is nothing more than a byproduct of a healthy lifestyle. If you're eating right, watching your portions and getting some regular exercise that includes some strength training, the weight will come off on its own.
Your boyfriend is correct on one point. If you don't eat enough, your body will cannabilize your lean muscle for energy. So, if you could tell us a bit more about what you eat and how much you eat each day, we could be more helpful.
Right now, we're taking educated guesses.

Inches coming off seems to be on a different path than the way pounds come off.
I have a slow weight loss and my two are different. It's frustrating some times. Best to you!

Because there are so many variables with weight - like time of day, time of month, whether you have been to the loo prior, the physical weight of the food still in your digestive tract, the amount of sodium consumed, etc. etc., I don't weight myself much at all now, and even tho', even tho' I have a perfectly good digital scale at home, I only weigh myself at my Medical Centre, and at the same time of day, in the same clothes!
As far as weight-loss and measurements are concerned, don't worry. Altho' I have lost a ton more weight than you, my waist (where my Dietitian measures it) is only 1-2 cm smaller than prior to my losing any weight. BUT I used to wear a NZ size 20-22 - NOW I wear a 14-16 bottom, and 12-14 top. Obviously there has been a big difference. It wasn't until I had lost about 20lb that my clothes started to get loose on me. Please, don't despair - you are doing your body a lot of good in ways that you can't see at this point. My suggestion to you is to put your scales at the top of a wardrobe or the farthest part of the basement - where-ever is very hard for you to get at! I must add, I USED to weigh myself every day - out of habit. It took a couple weeks to not feel like something was missing, but now, it is a habit to not weigh, and I very seldom think about wanting to. By not weighing it will save you an awful lot of angst!
Where it comes to your not eating the calories that you should be, you are doing your body a huge disservice. PLEASE start to eat enough! Not doing so is a big mistake a lot of people make without realizing that they are potentially hindering their weight-loss and are also likely not getting the nutrients that they should to maintain a healthy body and mind.

Change that as soon as possible. Not eating enough calories can do strange things to you.

I think it's really important to remember that the scale is only one measure. As others have said, try to get a handle on several ways to evaluate your progress. I have taken measurements of my waist and hips, and even if I'm not yet in a smaller size of clothing, I can see, objectively by the numbers, that I am losing inches. This often happens before I see a change on the scale (or unrelated to what's happening on the scale).
Keeping a log of how quickly you can walk that mile is another objective measure of your fitness. Likewise, maybe do some pushups or crunches and see how many you can do in good form in 60 seconds' time. Log it, and check back in a month. See your progress!
Can you think of other things you can log to get a numerical reality check on your progress?
Finally, if you really want to see your inches go down, make sure you are incorporating strength training 2-3 times per week in your fitness routine. Walking is a great start, but to tone and slim down, strength training is important. Lots of free videos here on Sparkpeople can help you get started with little or no equipment.
This has been a key to not getting hung up on the scale for me.

I had same issue as you did. But decide to not to jump on scale for 4 weeks. I made promise to my self. And I continue to work hard on exercise for next 4 weeks. And I lost 8 pound. But I lost 1 dress size. Even my bra size shrank. And I tried my hardest to not think about pounds but concentrate on exercise routine. So I have other things to pre-occupy with. And as days go by it wasn't as hard as beginning. I hope my experience helps you.

Thank you. That actually makes sense and makes me feel a whole lot better. I tried to talk to my boyfriend about it and his answer was completely different. All he says it that I have to eat more but that makes me feel worse. I feel like I'm eating enough. He told me that all I've been doing is burning up muscles instead of the fat. I want to lose at least 30 more lbs but I would also like to be in a size 10-12. Im in a size 15 now. My main concern is my belly and hips. Trying to lose this weight is so stressful. I'll put the scale away though. Just weigh myself once a week. I can do that much

The scale is only one way to measure success and it isn't always the best. Some times, a person could lose inches before they lose weight. other times, a person could lose weight before they lose inches ? How ? You may want to lose weight off your hips, but you may have lost the weight off your face/boobs. Do your shirts seem to fit a better ? Would you be willing to have someone take a photo of your face ? Compare it to an older photo. I'll bet you've lost weight off your face first. that's not unusual.
Also, you can lose weight off places you can't see. There are two kinds of fat aka visceral fat and subcutaneaous fat. subcutaneaous fat is the fat we can see, the dreaded cellulite. Visceral fat is the dangerous fat. that's the fat that collects around our middle as well as surrounds our internal organs. Now, we're supposed to carry some fat to protect our organs from shock. However, when a person is overweight, they tent to have too much visceral fat. So, you may be losing some of that visceral fat that's surrounding your internal organs. If so, that's good ! that's the unhealthy fat you want to lose.
And even though you might not be seeing results where you want them does it mean you're not seeing results. Can you carry more bags of groceries ? can you walk up stairs without getting winded ? Can you walk or run a mile faster today than you could a month ago ? Do you have more energy ? are you sleeping better ? When is the last time you had a cold/flu ?
There are lots of different ways to gauge success. Look for those other subtle signs of success you might not have noticed because you've been too fixatated on the scale. Weighing yourself multiple times per day really isn't healthy at all.
There is more to good health than a number that stares at us from between our toes in the morning. Try not to worry, you're doing just fine.

So I think my scale is actually lying to me. Its not even a digital scale so I'm not sure how its doing it but it is. I'm addicted to weighing myself everyday if not twice a day. I know that part isn't healthy but that's not really the point. It says that in the past 3-4 months I've lost about 20 lbs. Sounds great right?? My clothes don't fit any differently. Its say I weigh 181 but still wear a size 15-16. Why is my waist not getting any smaller. I walk at least a mile every day, sometimes more. I don't eat as many calories as I'm supposed to in a day but what I do eat is healthy. I've been trying so hard to get rid of my flabbyness. Whats wrong with my body??
