I lost this week and it's thanks to getting back to tracking my food and exercise. I'm doing a lot more on the site too, to try and motivate myself.

Thanks, MissJane for posting. I can't imagine having both hips done, but I bet you're feeling so much better. It's hard to explain to people how amazing it is to not be in such pain any more

I am doing well since becoming active on Spark this week. I have surprised myself.

I've gotten the eating in check so this weekend I'm going to start working on developing an exercise routine that I will follow. Guess I'll be starting out small, but I've got to get my knees and hips strengthened.

I do a lot of walking but it's time to change it up.

I'll be happy to hear from anybody looking to get back in shape with me after hip replacement.

I have both hips replaced. So grateful that this surgery exists, I would be a cripple in a wheel chair without hip replacement surgery.
After my first one, four years ago, it took at least two years to trust that I wouldn't hurt myself or dislocate my hip by doing something stupid. As it turns out, movement is very highly recommended after your hip has been any rate, long story short, now that both are functional, I am in better shape than I have ever been in my life. So, if you want to 'talk' please feel free to email me on Spark.

Check at the hospital where you had the hip replacement, they have groups of like minded people who gather together, maybe you can get together with them for exercise, walking, chatting, commiserating, etc. The therapist should have given you more than one idea of a safe exercise, not everyone can go to water exercise. My husband rides an exercise bike every single day, we have one at home, watch tv while you ride, no weather excuses that way. He rides 3 hrs. a day, but not all at once.

What about regular lap swimming or doing your own exercises during open swim? You might be able to find a time when you can go on your own.

If you are in a larger city, Aqua Zumba is worth looking into...though it does not seem to be widely available.

Nobody else can do this for you--put it on your calendar and GO.

Still looking for someone to help in my quest to lose weight.

I'm a backslider because of a bad hip and giving up. I've had my surgery and I'm ready to start losing again.

I'd love to have some support to keep me motivated.

Thanks Coach!

I've checked it out and it looks good. Guess I've just got to jump in (feet first)!

Here's a SparkTeam you might find helpful:

Did your doctor refer you to see a physical therapist after your surgery? They would be the best source of information for what kind of exercise you should be doing.

Just got back from a Dr. visit and I need to lose weight (again). I had a total hip replacement in April and doing well, but not sure what exercises I should be doing. Otho Dr recommends water aerobics, but unable to get there with my work schedule. I do a lot of walking, but need more. Are there any groups for hip replacement here?
