Slow weight loss is the best. When it�s rapid, it�s not only not usually long lasting, but it can be unhealthy for the body. Definitely slower is better. When I�m counseling people about I always equate it to the tortoise vs. the hare. The hare darted out in a hurry to succeed but ended up losing to the tortoise�s slow and steady pace. Weight loss is the same way. Take your time and stick with it.
And if you're able to bump up physical activity, that's good too. Walking, dancing, biking, or even seated exercises are good.

You are absolutely right... there are ways you cannot eat forever... but cutting out "white" is not so bad. Brown rice, whole grain breads and eating natural sweets like fruits is such a healthy way to eat. I have lost 60 pounds. 40 of that since I found SP and it has been slow slow slow. But on the other hand it has been a slow and steady loss every year. Before SP I was putting on 10 pounds a year. I had bad knees and could barely walk at all. This morning I just did a 40 minute walk to the post office before breakfast. Hang in there. I look at the "rules" to aim for 2 pounds a week. Ah... try a half a pound a month. But I am eating a way that I can eat forever. In fact that was what appealed to me when I joined SP. This is not a diet. It is a new way of eating. For me I eat way more than I ever did because I exercise now. But it is healthy. More fiber. More vegetables. It has not been about less eating. I learned that ST would increase my metabolism and at the same time make my joints and bones stronger. I can get up and down from the floor easily and do stairs and my aches and pains are more manageable. Good luck!
I have lost and gained weight so much over the years and it has taken until now (I'll be 60 this month) to realize that I have to make changes if I want the weight to stay off. Being more committed has really helped. It's not just losing weight, it's feeling better, having more energy, being able to keep up with my grandsons. But I couldn't have done this without having the right mindset. Good luck - but remember it's not just losing weight - it's changing your life.

I agree Debby, this needs to become a way of life, not a program you stop. I am just thankful I am losing, even though it is slow!

I think losing weight and having it take so long, is good training for how we will have to live for the rest of our lives. We can never go back to over eating and eating poor choices in food. Not without gaining it all back. So, watching what we eat will hopefully become a habit.

I think most of us go through this stage when we get frustrated about how little we lose each week but a loss is a loss. Hang in there and have a super weekend.

I have been frustrated too, but slow is better for you. The one good thing about this program, is I am not going up and down, it is either down, or the same, so that is good!!

The problem with fast weight losses is that most people put the weight back on just as quickly. A slow loss is much better for your body and more likely to be maintainable. Still, we all want it off tomorrow.
The words "only" and "lost" do not belong in the same sentence. Since you have not said what you consider to be a really slow loss, I can't comment on that. But SP is set up for you to lose between 1/2 and 2 lbs per week. It's not Biggest Loser (a show that I think is immoral, personally) but it is sustainable.

I am getting kind of discouraged. I have been cutting out all white bread, rice, pasta etc. for about a month now and also in the beginning was doing the mostly veggies and protein and NO Sugar. Knew that this was NOT something I could do forever so I then started to track my calories. I feel that I am losing so slow and do not know why. I have alot of weight to lose so I thought I would see much better numbers than I am seeing. I have not been exercising (walking) due to knee problems. Hoping to start that really soon. I just do not want to get discouraged as I have in the past. Sorry to ramble on. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
