I think it is GOOD thing to set goals and deadlines for everything and life event deadlines are wonderful, whether or not we meet them. They help with focus and productivity and knowing what we are here for and give us clues as to what we really want and what our mission is.

That said, I personally dislike the term "bucket list" as it is SO negative to me.

Moving in new directions.

I have a bucket list and am slowly working my way through the goals I have set for endurance racing.

I like having goals, but not so much deadlines. Physical goals, like a hiking trip (which I love taking) help keep me motivated to work out, though I find I need the exercise for a healthy mind as well.

I think there is a bucket list for every age group but it's more of a physical limitation...

Having Kids...obviously there is a timeframe and the earlier you have kids the less you risk with certain problems. And you want to be there to take care of them...not for them to take care of you

No, I really don't set that kind of "deadline." I will say that I set goals for myself, and I have achieved some of them. My goal regarding weight was more a goal to permanently get control of my eating habits. There were times in my life I never thought I could do it, but for the past 7 years, I have done very well with it, and I do not expect I will ever have a weight problem again.

I set a goal when I was about thirty, to get a BS degree by the time my son started kindergarten. I achieved that one. Other than that, I never set any educational goal that needed to be finished by a certain age. I did earn my Master's but just went with the schedule and did it in about two years. I was in my 40s then. I set a goal to earn a doctorate degree and thought of it more in how many years it would take me, rather than by what age I would be when I completed it. I initially hoped to achieve it in three years but it took me 5.5 years. Still, I did accomplish the goal and was 51 years old at the time.

My husband has goals to "see this, do that, travel to specific places and such." I don't have those kinds of goals. I would rather enjoy life each day and do more spur of the moment things, like going to a concert, or traveling to see our children, or yes, planning a vacation. But I don't want to plan a vacation that I hope to take "some day." I want to plan the next vacation that I will take in the nexts months, or year ahead, at the most.

"GOALS" vs "Life Event Deadlines"
Goals are a way to help us keep on track to achieve something positive while Life Events Deadlines are desperate measures in which social disaster may incur if we don't meet them.
I'm beginning to see a difference between the two.

Is this a bad thing?

I remember when I started to lose weight and get healthy and lift saying to myself by the time I'm 50 I want to have a rockin' body. Well, I guess I made that goal, I did get the okay from my pcp to stop taking my diabetes meds and I did lose a lot of weight and my muscles did start to grow all by the time I was 50 (18 months ago).

I was wondering if anyone has done this and if anyone thinks it's a bad thing to set deadlines for life events like marriage, having kids, owning a motorboat, achieving a doctorate, etc....
