Years ago, I tried another diet that called for "sassy water", which was water, lemon, ginger, and cucumber, left in the fridge overnight. Supposedly the ginger helped calm digestion, but I liked the flavor without all the calories!

I agree with the eating right, part. Weight loss is 80% nutrition. However, ST is just as important, if not more important than cardio. I do agree that "lemon water" will help if you're drinking it in place of juice or soda, but just adding it to your day and making no other changes isn't going to magically make the weight dissappear.

the only way lemon water might help you lose weight is if you are replacing a drink that has calories [like coke] with the lemon water. and that would only be if you were maintaining or already losing while drinking the drink that has calories, then swapping the calorie drink for the no cal drink [water with lemon]. if you were gaining then swapping coke for lemon water would only result in a loss provided the amount you were gaining was exactly the same as the calories provided by the drinks that had calories. then lemon water in place of the caloric drink would result in loss or maintenance [again depending on how over you were running].
