Interesting,
No I do not use any protein powders but was thinking of using them. I do use the Slim Fast protein shakes as I cannot seem to meet my daily limit without and it curbs my evening cravings.

If it's Exertional Compartment Syndrome, your doctor might not be very familiar with it. A proper diagnosis for it should be done by a sports medicine doctor or orthopedist.

You don't happen to take protein powder containing creatine, do you? Creatine can cause compartment syndrome.

Thank you again

Hi Gordomoose,
I have been paying attention more to the pain. It is not swollen, warm or odd color. The pain is actually becoming less painful but happens when I am walking more uphill or on the uneven surface. And as soon as I am done walking the pain is gone instantly.
Thank you for the link; going to read it now.

Ask your doctor if it could be Exertional Compartment Syndrome

Next time it happens, check if it's more swollen or warmer than the other leg, or a different color.

Gordonmoose --
It is the entire bottom of the leg and beginning of ankle and radiates down into my entire foot.
It has started affecting my knees.
Today I am going on a search of finding a better designed shoe. A friend of mine was reading an article and because I walk/run on gravel/dirt there is a specific style of shoe I need. I believe it was called "trail runner".
Thank you emoticon

====
After about 15 minutes into the workout my left leg/ankle begin to hurt to the point I am not able to walk on it.

Can you be more specific about where the pain is? Inside or outside of your ankle? Any other part of your leg, like your inner or outer shin, calf, thigh, etc?

I too have been dealing with discomfort on the ball of my left foot for about a month. Feels like I'm stepping on a rock. Also affects my knee because I guess I'm not always walking on it properly. I can use the elliptical machine and weight machines and it doesn't give me a problem. I also use the pool to walk and tread water. At least I feel like I'm getting my exercise in without exacerbating the problem.

Emily has given you some great advice. I'd also wonder about your shoes. Are you wearing good shoes that fit properly and aren't worn out? Bad shoes can give you all kinds of trouble.

If the pain is that significant, then your doctor should be able to investigate further to help figure out what's going on.

You told your doctor that it hurt to the point that you could not walk on it at times and for more than a few days it has recurred, and she did not say or do anything?

I would definitely give her another chance, but if she still does not do anything, find another doctor. Here locally, we have a few "urgent care" facilities that bill insurance at regular doctor rates, but have the xray equipment to tackle a look to see if you have a stress fracture or something like that. If they cannot find something, they could refer to an ortho specialist. For those of us starting out, some aches and pains are to be expected (I had a questionable foot issue end of last week / this weekend) but it went away as of Monday morning; if it had not, I was going to get it xrayed. They should only last a few days, though. Beyond that, it needs a look.

Pain is your body's way of saying something is wrong. If it sticks around for more than a couple days, it needs to be investigated.

i have shin splints, and this is severely hindering me from improving my cardio, and ramping up my workout. I so want to improve on this area, but i am constantly hitting a wall whenever I try to puch myself. I think i have to resign to gym membership and use elliptical and stationary bikes to allow me this leverage

I'd really ask your doctor again. What happens if you take OTC pain medications like ibuprofen or aspirin?

I am not sure if this is the forum to use for this question but figured it can't hurt.
I have been doing a 3.5 - 4 mile cardio workout 5-6 days per week for the last 2 weeks. After about 15 minutes into the workout my left leg/ankle begin to hurt to the point I am not able to walk on it. Well, I walk on it but more of a peg-leg walk than the "normal" step. When I slow down the pain goes away but when increase speed or going uphill the pain resumes and I just want to cry. It is only in the left leg...I asked my doctor about it but she did not say anything.
Any ideas as to why this could be happening or what I can do to minimize the pain???
