I have eaten the noodles before,and as a diabetic I think they made an ok substitute for pasta but I am not that fond of them. If I needed more fiber in my diet I would consider them but I don't have a problem "in that area". Also I am not sure why a diabetic shouldn't use it as the goal is to lower my blood sugar. Can you elaborate? I understand I would have to monitor for lows if I used it until I figured out how to balance it out but diabetics need fiber too.

I have done some on-line research on Konjac Root and you might want to read more about it on LiveStrong.com. It hasn't been widely tested for weight loss but in a small blind study the participants who took Konjac Root (vs the placebo) lost 5.5 pounds in 8 weeks. I did see it recommended by Dr. Oz on his show with Valerie Bertinelli. Diabetics should NOT use it as it does lower blood sugar.

I'd rather eat fruits or veggies with water before meals to help feel full, because that's real food and won't cost as much as a special "diet supplement".

There is NO "supplement" that helps you lose weight magically, or better than sticking to a reduced-calorie diet and exercising regularly. Just because there's tons of money to be made off of overweight people who want a quick fix does not mean that any of that stuff is worth your money. Invest in some healthy groceries and a gym membership or fitness video instead. Those will pay off.

That said, any fiber supplement has the effect of making you poop as well, and supplements such as psyllium husk can sometimes have the side effect of irritating your stomach and causing cramping in addition to that.

I've been using the pills for a few days, so it's too early to say if it will result in weight loss. I used a similar product in Europe (Appesat) and lost about 10 kilos in three months, eating a low-carb, high-salad diet. It really helped me survive eating much less than usual. I'll check back when I've been on the Konjac for a few months.

Low Carb Canada has the noodles.
I got them via mail from there, because I had eaten them before, and wanted them - NOT because of anything Dr. Oz said.

I don't watch his show, unless I happen to be somewhere waiting for an appointment, and it's on there.

If I ate everything he recommended:
- I'd be poorer than I am already
- I'd be living on pills and drops and "fake" stuff
- I'd weigh zero? emoticon

huh. My mock fish/shrimp is konjac root. I wonder if the fiber is a post-production product?

I have always had luck at iherb.com for supplements etc.

This fiber is different than other fibers in the sense that it absorbs more per it's weight. So it is able to stabilize your blood sugar for longer than other fibers lowering your glycemic index. If you don't want to take the suppliments you can cut out all white flour, rice, sugars and switch to lower glycemic foods. That is what makes the South Beach Diet so popular. I would say ask your doctor first and do some research. I just started taking PGX (ultra matrix softgels) and I feel full much faster and don't have that mid day slump I used to have. I have only been taking them a week, but I feel better (more energy). I have had no side effects. I am not taking them to lose wt, but was looking for a fiber suppliment since I can't seem to eat enough. I will let you know if wt loss happens.

I agree, eat the noodles. They are more filling than the pills.

I would never take that stuff in capsule form. Better to eat the noodles if you want the fiber. The powdered fiber is banned in some countries because of a choking hazard.

I just watched a Dr. Oz show I had taped and he DOES recommend Glucomannan to a man (and the audience) for weight loss and to help control his blood sugars! He said it would cost about $10 a jar at health food stores, but would help add years to the man's life!!!

It's basically almost pure insoluble fiber, similar to that found in beans and psyllium husk. I guess the draw is that it has fewer calories than the others. It's the primary ingredient in the close-to-zero-calorie-per-serving Miracle Noodles everyone's talking about right now. I would think that in pill form, the konjac would be very similar to psyllium husks (the original metamucil). As such, you need to make sure you get a good amount of _soluble_ fiber as well; for some reason, the gallon (at least) of water I drink per day is not sufficient to keep things moving w/o supplementing the psyllium/insoluble fiber with some kind of bran. That said, the previous poster is correct...it works like other fiber products. I'm sure you can find it online and I'm pretty sure I saw glucomannan at the vitamin shoppe, though I always feel better doing a little research myself before trying something new.

A lot of people selling various supplements like to say that "Dr Oz" (or sometimes "Oprah") "recommended" it. They know that people NEVER CHECK to see if it's true, and they can sell it easier if it has a famous name supposedly endorsing it. If you can't find it on the respective site, you should be very skeptical of the recommendation.

I never heard of this. Dr Oz seems to recommend many different supplements. I think you should research on the internet or talk to your doctor.

All fiber does this. If your looking for this effect, get a jar of metamucil or something similar and save some money.

I'm not familiar with this product, but I'd definitely recommend asking your doctor about it just to be safe before trying anything.

I heard from my parents that Dr. Oz recommended a product called Konjac Root Fiber (or Glucomannan), which is a capsule that you take 30 minutes prior to a meal, with a big glass of water. Supposedly, it helps you feel full, and keep you feeling full for a long time. More importantly, it helps control your blood sugar.

Has anyone else heard of this or tried it? Do you know where these capsules can be purchased (Iím in Canada).
