I, too, have a kidney stone. It's actually in the kidney, and it only causes me grief every so often (this past week, definitely).
Definitely stay hydrated (which may have been my problem, recently - I may have slacked off on the fluids).
Mine isn't going to go away any time soon, but the doctor says that ones in the kidney don't often cause as much problem, but operating would possibly cause more problems than they want to deal with, so it stays where it is. It's way too big to pass through the tubes.
I don't follow any specific diet, although at first I had read up on it and wondered about the wisdom. However, I'm not trying to tell you what to do, because everybody's situation is different.
The advice about seeing a nutritionist is a good one, and worth following.
Flush excess calcium & oxalate from the kidneys by drinking lots of water...usually stones form because of dehydration. Stay hydrated.

I would suggest asking your doctor for a referral to see a registered dietitian. They can help create a meal plan specific to your needs to help you lose weight, while making sure you get all of the nutrients your body needs at the same time.

I've been following the "Kidney stone" diet or the low oxalate diet since my last kidney stones about 8 months ago. I don't seem to be producing any (or not big enough) calcium oxalate stones cause me pain anymore. However, I am having a hard time losing weight with a diet this restrictive, I'm sticking mostly to Very low/Low/Medium and sometimes high foods only. If anyone has any suggestions that could help with my weight loss diet wise I would greatly appreciate it.
I also, don't eat pork or beef and eat a low sodium diet (my mother has had high blood pressure since I was a little girl and I'm simply not used to eating a salt heavy diet).
