I asked for the Nook for Xmas instead of the Kindle because I wanted to be able to get library books on it, which you can do for free with the Nook but cannot do with the Kindle.

I've actually wished that I waited and got the latest version (nook color), as I have read that it can be used like a tablet computer (a good deal for around 250, compared to the ipad, etc).

I love my Kindle. EPub/library lending will be enabled for Kindle by the end of the year. Lending/sharing with a friend is available on the Kindle now but only if the publisher allows it on that title. You have to set up a credit card/gift card on your amazon account to make ebook purchases on Amazon.com - I don't think you can do it over the phone. There are lots of websites that tell you about free/discounted ebooks. I've taken my Kindle on vacation to the beach and loved it - no glare! And no more suitcases full of books when I go on vacation (I read a lot). I find it really easy to use, but it's not the right product if you want to surf the web, watch videos or do other interactive things. It's just a really great basic ereader device.

Edited to add: The Kindle with ads/special offers (for $114) only shows ads on the home page. The ads do not show when you are reading a book.

I now have a Kindle but was a Sony EBook owner first. I prefer the Sony EBook. Loved it, much more user friendly, and great ease buying books. The Kindle is quite a bit more cumbersome in comparison. Also, someone mentioned the Kindle is now down to $114 and that is correct however, it is at that price because it comes with Advertisements you have to view. I would prefer not to look at adds while I am trying to read a book. The Barnes and Noble Nook I have heard great things about.I think they have made it very easy for you to "Share your books" with friends. This is not something you can do on Kindle. I also purchased a case for my Kindle that has a very good nightlight attached. It was about $60 but well worth it. You just can't go wrong with any of these electronic readers. :)

I love my Kindle, I use it every day. I've never used any of the other e-readers, but I like the look of the page on the Kindle and that it's not lit like a computer screen. I also don't care about touch-screen, color, or surfing the Web, like some of the other e-readers have. Also, decide if you need the 3G or just the Wi-Fi connection. I have wireless Internet at home and have never had to use the 3G to buy a book when I was out and about. Could have saved $50 or so. But I guess it might come in handy in the future.

You can choose to set up an Amazon account linked to your credit card and you can then search for books directly from your Kindle, read excerpts and buy without going back online.

Also, based on the books you buy, they recommend other similar titles/authors. The books are broken up by category and sub-categories, so it's fairly easy to find what you're interested in. I just did a search under Fiction- Religious Fiction for "Amish" and came up with 478 titles. I don't see on here where to sort them by price low-high, but I know you can on Amazon.com. Hope it helps!

I got a Kindle for my mom and Christmas and bought one for myself as well. We both love it! She even took it to the beach recently and discovered that they were correct in advertising the "no-glare" feature of the device.

Currently, the device does not support the epub file extension which means that you cannot get ebooks from the library, although, I have heard that Amazon may be changing that soon. They really need to since there are so many other readers available. I still wouldn't have any other kind.

I have also been considering a Kindle. I have looked at the Nook too. Trying to decide what to do!

I don't have one either but have been looking into it for my kids. The kindle has been rated very well and the price has dropped to about $114.00, so it seems like it is a good deal. I would like to know more myself about what others think.

I've had a Kindle since Christmas and LOVE it!!! I take it with me everywhere. I don't think you can buy books with a toll free number though. I've never tried, I only get them off Amazon. There are a ton of sites out there that tell you about current free books for it. Yes, you can search for a certain kind of book for your Kindle. To find the free ones in your category, you just click on the drop down box and click list lowest to highest price. Feel free to hollar at me on here if you have any more questions about it. emoticon

I am thinking about buying a kindle for my birthday in July but i don't know much about them is one better than the other? Can you pay for the books with a toll free number instead of on line ? Can you list like Amish novels and get a list of them that are free or according to your price range ? I could use some info here ! emoticon
