I relate to your feelings about sugar and completely agree with the post regarding ridding yourself of artificial sweeteners.
I could not kick sugar until I kicked diet soda. The artificial sweetener in the soda kept me reaching, reaching, reaching for something, anything sweet.
It wasn't an easy fight. I still don't call myself sugar-free. But I'm getting there, and one of the biggest steps I took was tossing out the diet drinks.
Best of luck with this. It's hard, but doable.

eliminate it if you can - best thing you can do! natural sugars ok like in fruit or carbs like brown rice - the body knows how to break these down but the sweets like candy and doughnuts are really tough on our system!

Artificial sweeteners can provoke a Pavlovian response in a persons body. This essentially means that the artificial sweetener can cause an insulin spike similar to real sugar. The resulting blood sugar crash can trigger serious cravings so you should really be careful with -ANY- sweetener.
Unless you've been sugar/sweetener free for a long enough time to retrain your bodies response, I recommend staying clear of any sweeteners. Although, if you've been sugar free for that long you probably wont even need a sweetener anymore. :)
I make lemonade with stevia and that does a good job of my sugar need. I quit drinking COKE a few years ago which was great. I also have a large (310 calorie) Protein bar if I want "sugar" at night. The Peanut Butter one is the best and has 30 proteins. It helps make me fill full.
