Hey being good for the weigh in makes perfect sense - now we just have to start being good because we WANT to be BEING HEALTHY. LOL

I will weigh in tomorrow and see how I have done - all the exercise may have slowed the weight loss - I will see tomorrow.

Selina and Teresa - congrats on the nice loss.

I had a healthy food day yesterday, and 118 min of exercise. DH and I did a wonderful walk that ended up being 70 min, we didn't have a watch, usually we would go 30 min then turn and come back. I always walk with hiking polls.

Have a healthy day everyone. Barb

The first week of June is over, and I'm so glad I joined this challenge!
Teresamus, congrats on your weight loss! emoticon
Nancypat, that's true, we all have to figure out our own way to stay away from all the tempting food. Thank you for the advice!

Everyone has to figure out the way to deal with the treats that call their names - I found that by allowing myself to have ANYTHING but making it fit into my calorie range and not having something to satisfy a craving BUT PLANNING FOR IT in the future - keeping portion size and frequency into account. Others simply feel they cannot cave in or they will go crazy. Still others plan for who days or meals or weekends when they can have something special. It CAN be done and WE ARE DOING IT - hang in there.

I agree the tempting foods are hard to give up. We have a candy drawer at work and that thing talks to me!! I do my best to avoid it, and when I do give in I track it. Usually I can still stay within my calorie range and forgive myself.

Good luck to everyone today.

I had a good day yesterday, no mindless eating although we ate supper at the mall which is not the best for us however no evening snacking so I'm happy about that.

Today we go to the library as it is due date for a couple of books, this is a challenge because my favorite restaurant is near there. Plan is to go right after lunch so I won't be hungry and it will be to early for supper.

Selina - I love the "Walk Away the Pounds" DVDs they are great for rainy days and DH even does them with me. Avoiding a tempting food is the hardest thing, I have decided to give up wheat and many temping foods have wheat, I am successful 80 - 90% of the time. Taking wheat out of my diet really helped me.

Already on a great start to my June goals. Lost 1.4 this week!

Knuckles145 don't get discouraged you can do anything you set your mind to! Don't have the mindset that the honeymoon is even over. You can do it!

May was the "honeymoon" know the period where you start eating right and exercising again and the first 5 to 10 pounds comes off fairly quickly. June its time to buckle down and be disciplined. I do all of the above (below lol) but with my low thyroid, weight loss isn't what it used to be.

I'm just super tired today and discouraged. and mad at myself for caving in and having some of the Mac & Cheese that the boys made for their dinner.

You are here so YOU ARE DOING something - don't expect perfection, don't try to do it all. Just pick one or two things and work on those until they become habits. Then add other things to your program. Small steps make big differences. Swapping sodas for water, adding soup or salad about 20-30 minutes before your meal (fills you up, eat less, and stay full longer when you do), swap potato chips for tortilla chips or pretzels (both are lower in calories, fat, and higher in fiber - some even have less sodium). Start an exercise plan with some small walks, go for a swim, bike (alone, with the kids, hubby, grandkids, or a friend), do a exercise video. Hang in there TEN pounds is not really the goal so much as an incentive - IF you lose 1 pound or even stay the same you are still in better shape than you were at the start.

Anosako, good luck with this challenge!

I just did the Walk Away the Pounds 5 mile Fat burning DVD, and I liked it a lot! Worked up the sweat and burned many kcal. It's only 10.30 am and I feel full of energy for the rest of the day.
My weigh-in is tomorrow - already here..

How are you all doing? emoticon

I think I'll go for this challenge. I begin my new job next week, so a sense of stability will definitely help me stay motivated in working hard, both professionally and personally. Thanks for sharing, and I'll do my best to do what I can.

With that being said, I need to learn to focus on nutritional VALUE to be of benefit to my progress and hope that moving around at work will help too. Until I heal up -let's go for the BIG 10!

I'm doing great with my walking program. Yesterday I went for a 35 min walk, and later for a 50 min walk. I try to walk at a brisk pace.
However, yesterday evening I gave in to a food temptation. I can stop myself from any sort of food I like except this one annoying thing that I can't resist. I'm hoping to burn those kcal asap and forget it ever happened. It's frustrating but I have to emoticon I've been so great this month and I don't want that to hinder my weight loss.

Do you have any advice? What do you do to NOT eat your tempting food? What truly helps you resist it? How do you stop yourself? Any advice would be very welcome.

Selina, I weigh in normally once a week but this week I broke that rule and weighed in a couple of days earlier. Going back to once a week though, it's more exciting that way!

I have a major problem with night-time snacking. In fact, I learned from my food tracker that all the over-eating I do is after dinnertime! I'm still looking for a good solution for that. For now I just have to exercise my weak (but growing) willpower muscle!

Everyone seems to be doing so well in here I have decided to join in! So far this month i have lost 2 pounds. I only tend to lose 1 or 2 pounds per week and might not reach goal but I think this will spur me on to lose as much as i can!

Selina. I just weigh in once a week.

I DO find that these challenges really help me - I tend to be a bit competitive (mostly with myself) and I don't like to do less than my best - that 10 pound number is a "shoot for the moon" kind of goal - realistically, most of us DO lose but most don't lose 10 pounds - it is shooting for the moon that makes the success feel so good - we do NOT feel bad when we aren't perfect, we just keep on going forward. I used to think that the challenges were NOT MY THING because they were often unrealistic for me - what I have discovered is that they help me stay focused and on track because I need to check in and tell how I am doing.

I have been trying to think in terms of percent of weight instead of number of pounds, so I will try my hardest to lose 5% of my current weight during June. I did lose 10 pounds in May, so I have hope.

I don't think 10 pounds is achieveable at this point, but I'd love to try! I've lost 20 pounds since January, but May really was just a plateau month for me, so I'm hoping to kick it in the butt again in June and lose some more weight!

TAMMYS128 Posts: 62
6/3/13 10:37 A

Wow! I need to adopt that mindset - I'm basically going to put in as much effort as I can this month and see how much I am capable of losing. If it's 10 lbs that's perfect. If it's less than at least I've lost something and I can learn going forward what my body can handle!

While I know I won't be losing 10 lbs, the challenge is what I need to stay motivated. I know once my kids get out of school in 2 weeks I will have less time to work on this so hoping to make the next 2 weeks count. Hoping to lose 3 or 4 lbs this month. Good luck to everyone.

Welcome - you can make this happen - I always have to say that even when we don't LOSE 10 pounds, we are STILL successful - I keep trying and most of the time only lose 6 or 7 pounds - ONLY has turned into 81 pounds so the ONLY shows how successful these challenges can be.

TAMMYS128 Posts: 62

Great idea nancypat! I'm definitely going to join you on this challenge.

I've already lost 5 pounds since I started, so if I could lose another 10 this month, that would. be. awesome.

My starting weight is 95.6 kg (which is 210 pounds).

Man, if I can lose ten pounds this month, that means I'll be 91 kg - the thinnest I'll have been in years!! AND I'll be close to getting out of the 200's!

Clearly I've just discovered math and am enjoying it haha!

Also, congrats to Lissabrooke - 10% achieved (more math - weee!)

NANCYPAT1 Posts: 50,884

This whole process is about learning new ways to make better choices - if you join and discover you don't enjoy it - nothing is lost - just so long as YOU MAKE the kinds of healthy choices that let you see that this can be done. It is fun to encourage each other and it helps to see that others struggle and overcome challenges or plateau and get over it, etc. Glad you are on board for now.

6/2/13 10:22 P

Congratulations on losing 32 pounds! That's wonderful!!

I'm game on trying this challenge. My issue is starting a challenge but not really sticking with it. I will definitely try harder at staying with it this time.

My starting weight is 165.

NANCYPAT1 Posts: 50,884

I have done these challenges for the past several months and while I have not lost 10 pounds each month, I have done well, losing at least 6 or 7 pounds each month - I am down 32 pounds since January 1 - which in MY BOOK is pretty good. Let's work on this - the REAL GOAL is support and progress - the 10 pounds is a REAL motivator but not achievable for EVERYONE.

My starting weight is 269 for June.
