I have been sick with a chest cold and haven't been able to exercise. I think I feel well enough (and am not contagious anymore!) to go to pilates tomorrow and give it a try. May not be able to complete the workout but we will see how it goes. Food wise, all is well. I am staying within my SP target range. So easy to track using SP. I did just the warmup of Walking Away the Pounds yesterday - my body is exhausted but I think if I just get dressed in my exercise clothes and go to pilates and do something, it will be better than nothing. I know I won't push myself too hard. As I mentioned, I am starting grad school next week and was thrilled to learn that the university has a gym with free exercise classes. One of my friends suggested going over to the university to scope out the food situation before I am there for my classes and get hungry. I thought that was a good idea - nothing worse than being hungry and being able to find only vending machines. I love candy don't get me wrong but that wouldn't really help my situation. So at the end of the week I am going to check out the gym and food. Very excited to start my classes.

I lost 10 pounds since the last week in December! I am doing the happy dance!! I feel better but my clothes are still fitting properly - perhaps they were too tight to begin with, I don't know. I have decided to celebrate by buying some moisturizer and cleanser for my face. A routine I should have been doing for years but haven't.

My potato soup was delicious and it served more than I thought so the calories were lower. How can I put my recipes in my favorites for tracking without making the recipes public?

My cold is in my chest now. No Zumba for me tomorrow. I know, I should just relax and be flexible.

Read Tosca Reno's book "Your Best Body Now" and I found it very encouraging and thoughtful. It is targeted to my age group (I am 47). It is designed for women in their 30s 40s 50s. I am not sure I am ready to "eat clean" all the time, but I am ready to incorporate many of the changes she suggests. The idea that she was over 200 pounds and not a young person and was able to make the changes she did, is really something. The book spoke to me in a way few books have. I borrowed it from the library. I rarely buy books but down the line I may buy it.

Cindy:

Happened upon your blogging. Good job on incorporating all the change. I saw your comment about inserts. Back in 2006, I was training for the Susan Komen 60 mile breast cancer walk and developed ITB syndrome. I went to a physical therapist who helped me out with this. One of his suggestions was to put inserts in my shoes. He recommended http://www.yoursole.com. I have been using them ever since. They are are a little expensive but I now have a pair of these inserts in every shoe I wear. They are great support. I hope this helps. I will be back again to see how you are doing! Keep up the good work!

Last night I made Cheesy Hamburger Casserole from the SP recipe site. It was good. I didn't have low fat cheese so I used regular cheese but halved the amount. Turned out fine. It makes alot of food. My husband and I will be eating it for days. I still have a lousy cold so I just did my strength training (arms) and hope to get back to my walking DVDs in the morning. Tomorrow I am making potato soup from a Pinterest recipe. Put the ingredients in the recipe calorie calculator on SP - wow! I am still going to make it. I am just going to be more careful than I would have been in the past. I am sneezing and every time I do, I feel my stomach because of the Pilates. I did that on Wednesday! I think it is going to be a good workout for me.

Today is a better day than yesterday...juiced veggies & fruit for breakfast w/ my hubby. Packed his lunch, but bad me I didn't buy lunch stuff while shopping yesterday. So it was zucchini bread (wheat flour yay but working on the sugar swap), nuts & fruit & Special K bar. Just got back from my 2 mi walk in the warm sun...tried jogging, but knee is in pain. Next wk :-) SP can be addictive so tom I'll try the morning & evening check in :-)

Yesterday I tried Pilates. I also stayed for Zumba. Probably too much exercise for this ol'gal but it seemed like a good idea at the time and I am not particularly sore today. It was my first time trying Pilates and I had to modify alot! I feel it in my stomach today but I am not uncomfortable. I have a cold so am not planning on doing anything physical today. Food has been good today. I discovered that my honey roasted peanut fix costs me 300 calories or half a zumba class. WOW! Have to come up with a different mid morning snack. I knew they were caloric, I just didn't realize that caloric! It really helps to track using SP. I am trying a new SP recipe this evening. I am starting grad classes in a week. Not only am I nervous about starting something new, I also am worried about how it will change my diet and exercise routines. I am going to stop water exercise classes and continue trying Pilates. For me, it is a better workout and it is good to change things up a bit. Water exercise class is not water aerobics and is designed for people even older than me. It was a good place to start but it is probably not that effective and it takes up so much time! Pilates is right there with Zumba and I can walk on the off days. That is the plan. I am practicing being flexible with my time!!

I thought my unhealthy body fat was above normal until I purchased “fat calipers” and learned that it was below 20%. HooRah, this program works.

Well, today was rough - food wise. it could have been worse. I was so hungry this afternoon. I snacked too much. I am going to go to the store and pick up a few things to snack on that will fit in my diet plan. Tomorrow is another day! I walked 45 minutes with Leslie Sansone, so exercise is done.

I did my strength training routine and my Zumba. I have a rod in my leg from a car accident and I could "feel" it today during Zumba class. I am not sure I can actually feel the rod itself but my leg gets uncomfortable from time to time. I took it easy and am fine. Unfortunately I am starving. Am not sure if that is related to Zumba or just a coincidence. Need to stay focused until supper. I wonder how many calories I burn at Zumba. SP says 684/hour but I know I don't burn that much. I don't hop like the instructor does but keep my feet firmly planted on the ground. The instructor suggested I also try Pilates. For whatever reason, I am a bit nervous about Pilates, plus, it is held on the same day as Zumba and I am not sure a woman my size and fitness level should be trying to do both in the same day. Maybe I should try Pilates once and see how it goes. I don't have to do Zumba that day.

I had a good day yesterday. My husband made chili and I figured out the calories using SP and had the proper serving (1 cup), plus I had enough calories left over for cheese and sour cream on top! I did my two miles with Leslie Sansone but never did get around to doing the strength training. I took an unintentional nap instead - oops! Usually when my husband makes chili I end up eating it for lunch the next day, and the next, etc and big servings too. I am so glad I found SP and the function that figures out calories - I won't be eating big servings of chili for lunch anymore. Today's goals are to eat properly, do the SP strength training workout, and Zumba in the afternoon. I don't have work today, schools are closed due to MLK jr day and I have to remember Zumba! Oh and I looked at "active wear" on line. Didn't buy anything. I am going to wait a bit I think. Right now I am exercising in an old t shirt and yoga pants that are too big for me. Seeing the last part of my journal makes me wonder why I am waiting. It isn't easy to do Zumba in pants that are too big for you! I hate to buy clothes, my weight goes up and down so often. That must be the reason.

I do not currently have children, we are working on that. I have only been married since July and we have not yet been able to get the child thing to work our way but we will be working until it happens. I am just working on making a routine that will be able to still stay in place when I do have a child.

Food wise yesterday was an interesting day. Had to eat "fair food" for lunch. Yes, I should have packed a healthy lunch but I didn't. So I had a ham and cheese sandwich. My husband wasn't feeling well for dinner, so I heated up Beefaroni for myself. This didn't turn out so well because I was starving all evening and ended up snacking. I didn't eat a single vegetable all day - not good. Did a lot of walking though, well more strolling, but at least I was active! Today I am going to do my two mile with Leslie Sansone routine and the 9 minute strength training routine from SP. I am going to try to get it together with my food.

Apoling2011- I think it is wonderful that you are doing your 15 minutes and are on SP. Obviously I don't know if you have children, but, if you do, I relate! I did not make time for myself when my kids were young and I regret it now. I am terribly out of shape and need to lose about 100 pounds. I was too tired and didn't have time - how I wish I had it together back then to do 15 minutes. Now I have a 17 and 20 year old, so I am trying to make up for lost time. Keep at your 15 minutes, I personally feel you won't regret it. I wish I had made the time to do that.

I have been trying to be better with working out but it seems that there is not enough hours in each day to get in working out and everything I need to do for work and my family. I have been able to get 15 minutes in each day but it has not been working as well as I would like it to. Does anyone have any ideas how to get motivated or make time to work out.

Calorie wise I was fine yesterday, but, healthfully it was not so good. My husband wanted Burger King for dinner on our way to the grocery store. I had a small plain cheeseburger. When you think about it, that isn't a great option, however, usually I have that, fries, and a chocolate pie! Oh my! Fast food doesn't stay with me, and I was hungry in the evening. This morning I did two miles with Leslie Sansone. I didn't want to do it and it took some creative thinking on my part to get me to put it in the DVD. Today we are going to an event that requires lots of walking. I think it will be fun.

What a week! I worked way more hours than I am used to working. I missed Zumba because I had to work and I missed my morning walk this morning because I slept late. Have to get back on track. Food hasn't been great. A friend who is battling a serious illness asked me to go out with her to La Madeline for pastry. I had coconut cake, which was delicious but probably not a good idea. The really good news is this morning I got on the scale for the first time in 3 weeks and I lost 8 pounds! I think tracking my food and not obsessing over it and taking Zumba and water exercise might just work. We will see. Tonight I have to go to the grocery store and concentrate on healthy purchases. I have Zippo idea what to make for supper. Definitely time to regroup!

Thank you 1happywoman for the words of encouragement!

I did the SP strength routine this morning and Zumba in the afternoon. I wonder how many calories I am burning. SP says 600/hour for Zumba but I know I am not burning that because I have to modify the steps so much. I get pretty darn sweaty though. I stretched a different way at the studio and I stretched again when I go home. Hopefully my back etc won't tense up. Breakfast and lunch were fine. I feel in control, at the moment. Spoke to my Zumba instructor and she shared that she lost 60 pounds! You would never know it, she is a petite thing. What an inspiration she is.

Siroibara - "Real Food has Curves" was a quick read. Its premise is that natural food, homemade pudding instead of powdered jello pudding mix for example, is better for you and is what your body is actually craving. Give it what it craves and you will eat less calories. It was an encouraging book with lots of recipes. Frankly, the recipes were not what my family would eat. If you go to the library, check it out there, may not be worth purchasing. The Zumba class you describe doesn't sound like fun at all. My class, consisting of the instructor, one other student, and me, is very nice. Needless to say we have plenty of room and neither seems to care that I modify throughout the class. I worry that they will stop having the class. It can't be profitable at this point.

Hi Cindy, congrats on your achievements thus far! I hope your back feels better. I also struggle with eating the right food, and I am making it a goal to leave fruits out on the table so I can grab them. I used to keep them in the fridge and throw them out when rotten but it helps to see them out. Sorry the pork chops didn't turn out so well. You have to give a review of 'Real Food has Curves'. I've never taken a Zumba class because there are always over 40 people squeezed in the studio and I always see everyone pushing each other when not getting it. Not encouraging. Your DH is right, it makes a world of a difference to not only get insoles but the get the right shoes. I injured myself recently because I had regular sneakers and went for a walk, and when changing to running shoes, it made a huge difference. You will enjoy walking more because it's like stepping in clouds. I wish you the best and thanks for sharing your progress. Keep up the great work! We're here cheering for you.

Good Morning! My goals today are to eat well, do the SP strength training routine, Zumba, and make something for dinner. My challenge today: I may need to stay late and teach and therefore I will miss Zumba. If I do, I will have to relax and be flexible about it. If I am sore like I was last night from all the standing, I won't be able to Walk with Leslie Sansone either. Teaching isn't usual for me, so I will have to understand that these things happen. I feel really good this morning. All of the soreness is gone. My husband suggested that I may need inserts for my shoes after I get my teaching certificate! A good idea!!

I had a wonderful day. I work part time but ended up there all day to substitute for my supervisor. Didn't get to go to water exercise class because I was at work. That is OK, I need to be flexible with my time. I am exhausted. We had frozen pizza for dinner, not a success on my part, but, that is what my husband wanted. Since I didn't eat lunch (very unusual) I had the calories to use at dinner. My muscles all ache from teaching all day. If I want to be a teacher I have to lose the weight!

The people on SP are so kind. I posted a request for help with my sore back and got lots of good stretching ideas. When I was warmed up this morning from walking with Leslie Sansone, I did the extra stretches using the SP stretching video and feel much better! Thanks guys!! My goals today are to eat well, walk this morning (already accomplished), water exercise this afternoon after work, and put something semi healthy on the table for dinner. The last one will be hard to get motivated for because it will be "just" my husband and me for dinner. We are worth it though, right?? My mood is excellent and I am ready for work. Work today will be a challenge because my supervisor is not feeling her best and will be out. I will miss her and her guidance.

I ate properly today and did my strength training in the am and Zumba in the afternoon. I pushed myself a little harder in Zumba and even though I did extra stretching at home, my back is pretty stiff. Went for a short walk around Walmart to loosen things up a bit. At the store I saw they sell Leslie Sansone Walking DVDs. I have a few that I have borrowed from the library. They are pretty inexpensive to purchase if I ever want to do that. My Zumba instructor is very nice and encouraging. Again today I was one of two students. It is fun and I bought a month's pass. My SP apricot pork chops did not come out as well as I had hoped. I think I cooked them too long. I don't believe it is was the fault of the recipe. My husband complimented me and said he appreciates me trying to get a meal on the table. Thought that was nice.
Sfoster86 - I am new also. I like using the journaling feature, I believe it helps me keep on track. I looked at the Wii's today and they look like fun. I have only been doing this a short time but I noticed this weekend I didn't need a nap!! I love it!

I am new at SparkPeople but I am amazed at how much energy I have just from changing what I eat. I have Zumba for Wii and am glad that I keep the windows closed because I am sure I would have people outside laughing at me, it is really difficult to keep up. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Good Morning! My goals today are to get to Zumba and eat well, making pork chops for dinner using a SP recipe. Zumba will be difficult to get to because when I tried it for the first time last Wednesday, I was one of two students! The dance studio has mirrors all around and I didn't enjoy watching myself try to move. Also, I have never been a dancer - that being said, I did enjoy it as a whole and got a solid workout even with modifying a great deal. I think what I am trying to say is I am willing to give it another whirl. I am not a cook either, so those pork chops will be a challenge. I am learning so many new skills thru this weight loss thing! My mood is good and I feel a bit tired, I think I am not quite awake yet but will be fine in a bit.

I had a good day today. Stayed active with house cleaning, even though it was my rest day. Ate well, at the low end of my calorie range. Read part of the book "Real Food has Curves" which I am enjoying. I know I have to cut down on processed foods. I say cut down and not cut out because I have gone full force into the eating clean thing only to get frustrated and give up. I would love to eat clean, but, I am not ready yet. I need to add the eating clean routines into my diet slowly and accept that I may not be able to pull it off completely. I am focusing on eating "better" and am doing the SP healthy cooking challenge. I made chuck roast in the crock pot and imagine that isn't the healthiest thing I could have made. I got a meal on the table - that is progress! I feel really well and energetic today.

Thank you, Cindy Sunflower for the encouragement!

My goals today are to get a healthy ( or reasonably healthy) meal in the crockpot for dinner. To stay the course with my food and to enjoy my rest from exercise day and not feel guilty about not exercising. I read on SP that a rest day is very important. I am an all or nothing girl and that makes weight loss difficult. I am trying to cook dinner each night for my family. I feel really good today, woke up with lots of energy.

Food was a success today as was exercise. I stayed on the low end of my calorie range, which is a good thing because my husband and I had ice cream last night! I can't believe how much fat there is in one of those speciality ice creams at Cold Stone Creamery. (I had a gift card from Christmas!) Won't be doing that very often! Today wasn't particularly challenging, I believe because I have just started and am in the honeymoon stage. I think journalling twice a day will help me stay focused.

Thanks for sharing Cindy! emoticon

I can only imagine the challenges you have to face in the classroom while losing weight, but I know there are some tips & videos featured on the site where you can get some workouts to do in the day if you're in an office, classroom, or are stuck at work & can't get to the gym!

I believe in you that you can do this! I think it's great you're setting little short-term goals for yourself (like no over snacking between certain times and not snacking in the evening). It's all the little steps that will lead to the bigger ones, so you're pretty much on the right track!

Hope you're feeling in a fantastic mood for the rest of the day! Keep it up!

My plan is to check in every morning and evening. Hopefully someone will want to join me in my journey! I have about 100 pounds to lose. I am 47 years old and am going to graduate school to be an elementary school teacher. My weight and lack of physical fitness are going to be huge challenges in the classroom. I have to get rid of the weight!

My goals today are to stay in my calorie range and exercise. I have completed the exercise portion. I did the sparkpeople chair strength training and walked a mile outside. It was beautiful outside today!

My challenge today is to not over-snack bet. 3 and 5 pm. (That is my witching hour!) Also to put something healthy on the table for dinner. As always, another challenge is not to snack in the evening.

My mood is good and I feel I have lots of energy even though it is 3:20 and I have been active with housework all day.
