I don't have a problem with the Misto measurement amounts because I never spray a second time. I mist once. I did spray the amount I use for direct eating (as well as the amount I use to line a pan to prevent sticking) into a tablespoon once. There wasn't enough on the tablespoon to even measure! So I switched to teaspoon and same thing. So now I just add 30 calories to anything I mist and call it a day. That method has not effected my reaching goal......
I use olive oil in water, like when boiling noodles for example, and canola oil for stir fries or anything where there is high heat, and not much liquid. Measure out your portions, and pre-plan your tracker, and make it fit. Olive oil is fine, so is canola oil. Just in limited quantities.
The problem with mist sprays, oil, or dressings for salads, is that you have no real measurement. You pump it 5-10 times, and think you did great.. 10-20 calories, and then you think it isn't enough, and you add more.. but don't track it. You end up using 40 pumps to finish a dish. I am sure you have a measuring spoon for 1 T, 1/2 T etc. and can adjust size accordingly.
In the end, you can probably cut something else in your menu to make room for the fat, as long as you are not going over your range.

Not sure why canola oil deserved an eew. Canola oil is a healthy oil, canola oil is low in saturated fat and has a high proportion of monounsaturated fat, which help to promote healthy cardiovascular function thus making it a healthy and safe choice when it comes to cooking oils.
Misinformation about canola oil may stem from the fact that the canola plant was developed through crossbreeding with the rapeseed plant. While rapeseed oil contains very high levels of erucic acid, a compound that in large amounts can be toxic to humans, canola oil, contains very low levels of erucic acid.
While olive oil is considered the healthier oil, it's sometimes appropriate to choose canola oil instead. Extra virgin and virgin olive oils retain much of the flavor of the olives from which they're pressed, so while they might make a tasty dip or dressing, they often aren't appropriate for cooking or baking. Since most types of olive oils are more expensive than canola oil, you might want to consider reserving olive oil for toppings and using canola oil for cooking and baking.

I second the Misto suggestion. I have one and I love it.
Olive Oil is actually the healthiest when eaten in it's cold form, as in drizzled over salads, etc., rather than heated in a pan.

I use olive oil pretty much every time I use oil. If I am really high in calories for that day before dinner, but know that I need to cook with olive oil for dinner I would just use 0.5 Tbsp per portion rather than 1 Tbsp per portion or something like that. Olive oil is a healthy fat so I wouldn't worry too much about it though!

I recommend investing in a Misto (have found them for $5-10). You add your own olive oil. It is a sprayer that you put the pressure in yourself by a pumping action. So no need for the preservatives and chemicals used in processed cooking sprays. And because you spray a fine mist on food the amount used is very, very little. I mist pasta after cooking pasta before eating. I mist air popped popcorn. I mist veggies before grilling, etc.

don't use canola oil. Ew. it's not good for you. Olive oil is good for you. Just use less. Aim to use a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon. It actually goes a long way.
I use canola oil, mainly becasue OO is expensive and I don't use a lot of oil on anything.
There are good pastas out there that aren't "fattening." White pasta is kinda bad for you. Look for whole wheat, whole grain, veggie infused pasta and chances are you won't need OO. I never put it on pasta.

It's not necessary to add olive oil to pasta IMHO. I prefer to cook it with vegetable broth to get flavor.
As others have said, olive oil has some good health benefits, but since it's calorie dense you just want to be aware of how much you're using. I've found I don't need more than 1 tbsp per cup of pasta, and then I use a bunch of spices for all the yummy flavor. The pasta + olive oil comes to about 300 calories and is one of my favorite side dishes.
Olive Oil is one of the healthiest oils and it is high in polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants...along with monounsaturated fats that help lower cholesterol.
Olive oil also has Oleic acid which can not only help in keeping our arteries supple but can assist in helping blood pressure.
Maybe try the Pam Olive Oil spray, a couple of sprays over the pasta might just do the trick. Or get a mister of your own...Williams Sonoma has a non aresol mister that sprays food with a fine mist...maybe try Bed, Bath and Beyond or Crate and Barrel depending whats near you....
So enjoy the Oilive Oil as it really is good for you.
You like Olive Oil so use it. If you are worried about the amount you use, try using a little less.

In what context do you use it? Just pouring it over the pasta or what? Olive oil is one of the healthiest oils there is to use, so the only way to make it "healthier" is to just use less.

When I want olive oil, I eat olive oil. :) Sure there are likely alternatives, but I want olive oil!
There is no such thing as a "fattening" food. Anything can make you fat if you eat too much of it. As long a you stay in your calorie range, you can have pasta, and olive oil. Yes, olive oil has fat, but it's the good, heart-healthy fat your body needs.

I reallllly like pasta, but because its so fattening, i only have a little bit at a time. The real problem is that i like to use olive oil. That really racks up the calories and fat. Does anyone know of a good substitute?
