I know it's easier said than done, but don't feel guilty. In fact, this is probably a good thing for you body. It keeps your body on it's toes and prevents it from going into auto drive. Mixing up a workout like this will not let your body get use to same calorie burning routine everyday.

I'm in the same boat as you Darley! I workout everyday and burn from 100 to 500 calories a day! I mostly average 250. I eat about 1500 calories, maybe a pinch under. I am making this a lifestyle change, so the weight comes off and stays off. It's really hard and depressing when the scale goes up or doesn't move. I have been at the same plateau since January! I know I have gained muscle, but that dam scale doesn't move. I lost a bunch of weight last summer and I am happy to say it has stayed off, but as of January I really pushed myself! Going from a half hour to an hour to hour and half of working out and nothing has changed. I have become that horrible person, and obsessive of counting calories and workouts! I think I am driving everybody nuts! lol However I have really try to eat healthy and stay away from processed foods! I know I have not been perfect because I do treat myself to a cookie now and again. So my advice Darley is to be happy and do what you can and if it is a life style change you are making then slow and steady wins the race! I have to think that way too!! Good luck!!

Since I have lost so much weight with sparkpeople I have been getting a little impatient and greedy with the rest. I have to stop myself from going agro with the weight loss and remind myself to keep it slow and steady.

I try not to get caught up in the numbers of calories burned. What I focus on more is that I am moving and pushing myself every workout. I think when we make it about numbers, we lose sight of what's really important.....moving and burning calories!!! emoticon

I feel the same way. I feel bad if I don't burn 500 calories a workout. I jogged for 4 miles the other morning in 55 minutes and burned 550 calories (HRM #) and was disappointed it was not over 600. I think that I workout too much since I am not losing any weight (not eating enough I think). I think that as long as you are losing weight it should be ok, Your heart loves you.

It depends on the calories you are consuming.
Calories aren't bad, unless they are empty calories.

Eating an apple for 100 calories, and drinking a pop for 100 calories are both 100 calories, but have different nutritional content.

Burning 200calories on the day you have a pop will be more important than the day you load up on vegetables.

I have lost over 26 pounds so far, mostly thanks to staying in my calorie range.
I was doing lots of kick boxing. It's so much fun, but I do not always have that type of energy.
I think I am just going to do what's comfortable, yet still challenging.

I think as long as you are working out and eating healthy you will see results. There are days when I only do yoga for a half hour, I only burn 80 calories. I tell myself I exercised for a half hour and that is the important part.

Thank you for your answer. I am definitely on board with the lifestyle change, there is no turning back -- my mind is set! :) I have just been on a "streak" for only two weeks and am so anxious on knowing when I can start losing and weight and faster! I think you're right about the consistency but right now I would like to know how to burn more calories. I don't have any exercise equipment and workout at home and inside.

Darley,

Is is just fine! You do not have to spend hours in the gym or running to lose weight. In fact weight loss comes more from our diets than it comes from the activity that we do. And doing too much cardio can actually stimulate your appetite. As with everything else in life, moderation is key. Trying to keep up with an aggressive plan can actually lead to slower results and burnout.

Your question is "Can I expect good weight loss?"

I have a two part answer. Part one: you can expect slightly slower weightloss, since you are burning fewer calories. However! Part two: you can expect a more CONSISTANT weight loss, since you are exercising in line with your energy and not burning yourself out. Who's going to experience better weight loss, someone who burns 600 calories a day for a month and then burns out and doesn't exercise the rest of the year, or someone who burns 200 calories but exercises every single day that same year?

Oh, sorry, I should have put that in treadmill terms since you walk. That's like 50 minutes at 4-4.5 miles per hour. So, basically like running for 50 minutes. LOL

I also burn about 600 calories a day. To answer the previous poster's question I do 50 minutes on the elliptical at a 2 or 3 resistance at 91-100 rpm's. That's about 680 calories or a little under.

Anyway, don't forget that you burn calories by simply being human. You can google "how many calories do I need to eat" and you can double check but there are days when if you eat less and exercise less you'll still be okay.

How on earth do you burn 600 calories a day? I spend 1.5hrs working out 5times a week (running, walking, and moderate strength aerobics) and it always only adds up to a couple hundred calories???

Is it ok?
I go through cycles with my energy. Some weeks I eat 1,550 and burn 500-600 a day. Most weeks I eat 1,550 and burn 200-250 a day.
If I am eating 1,550 and burning 200 can I still expect good weight loss?
I always feel guilty if I do not burn a crazy amount of calories every day!
