It is a matter of what works for you. I do better having 3 small meals and a 3PM snack and an evening snack. the trick with small meals is to keep track of calories and make them whole food healthy

I eat according to my activity level. I am training for an Ironman now, so I et upwards of 2400 per day. When not in training I eat 1900 cal. Definitely 3 meals and 3 snacks in order to eat enough calories when training.

At one time, eating three meals a day was considered necessary for optimum health. But, times have changed. More research has shown that eating 4-6 smaller meals spaced out through the day can help a person feel more sated. Does this work for everyone ? Of course, not. One size does not fit all. because we are all different, we need to find what works best for us. So, some people will do better eating three hearty meals a day, while others will do well eating multiple smaller meals.
This is a very personalized journey. However, I think we can all agree on one thing, Americans should be eating more fresh fruit and veggies. Doing that will not only improve their health, but their waistline too.

Having healthy, low calorie snacks are is one reason for me being able to lose weight.
My body seems to run better eating frequent, yet small amounts through out the day.
But yeah, you really hit the nail on the head...each person has to learn what works (and doesn't work) for them.
The best exercise in the world is to bend down and help someone up.
You're right: it's a personal journey. You have to find out what works for you.
I used to be very content eating only two meals a day. I didn't snack much at all, and I was rarely hungry. I've developed some GI troubles since then though, and now I can't eat a "real" meal - I can only eat a tiny amount at a time. So that means I'm eating numerous times a day, which really doesn't appeal to me. But it's the only recourse I have.
It might help you to keep a log of what you eat, when you eat it, and how you feel afterwards. And when you get hungry again. That should help you determine what's healthy *for YOU*. What works for one isn't necessarily the right thing for anyone else.
So long as you're giving your body the proper nutrients to support its functions, I don't think the timing is critical (unless you're diabetic!). After all... our heritage isn't based on clock-hours for meals.

If you eat three meals a day and don't snack in between you'd probably get hungry. It's better to plan healthy snacks that include protein or a small amount of good fats (nuts or avocado)to curb hunger.

I lost a lot of weight eating three healthy meals a day, but I was hungry a lot. I kept the weight off for five years and then I had my daughter who is about to be 13 soon. I have struggled with my since giving birth to her. I lost but regained it so many times.
Now, I am learning to eat every 3-4 hours with a complex carb and a protein. I feel more satisfied, but then I eat something that's unhealthy.
I guess it all a process because I am learning what works and what doesn't. And, how to deal with my yoyo-ing.
