WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. So glad you've made the choice to become healthy and lose weight!! You're completely right about putting one foot in front of the other. It's not about being perfect, it's about living life better than the day before. If you give up everything from day 1 you're more likely to give up. Make small changes that you can live with. It's not a diet - it's a lifestyle change. When it's viewed this way you can decide better about what steps to take to reach your goals without sacrificing the things you love.
If weight loss was easy - no one would be overweight!! If you need a friend or support buddy - feel free to message me =] I always welcome extra support and I love being able to help others - I find it helps me to stay on track because my friends are counting on me to be there for them as well!!

Well you are my Junior, I am 69 years young and I have done very well with Spark. When i got here I had high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and High cholesterol. Now I have just cholesterol medication to contend with. Diabetes and Blood pressure are controlled by my food and exercise. I hope you set up your trackers, one for food and one for exercise. There are no gimmicks here and lots of helpful articles as well as real support. there is a different tracker for diabetics and it is absolutely great for me. Almost 50 pounds down, love walking and strength training with just resistance bands. Go for it. Pat in Maine.

Hello, Like I said, I'm from Iowa, and at 56 years old, and 100pounds over weight, I decided once again to try and loose this excess baggage, since I can't afford any of the expensive weight loss things, I decided to give sparkspeople a chance, It looks like a great site, and I'm looking forward to making new friends and getting healthy together. Nice to meet everyone, and I guess its time to start putting one foot in front of the other!!
