Well I say, fuel is what gives energy! If you ran out of energy(carbs), then try to exercise! You can't. The train only runs on fuel. The body will eat it's stores of muscle and fats. Nervous energy only goes so far. If you exercise very early, before you have eaten, sure you can move. But try after you have exercised, when you are fatigued. If you didn't need fuel why were you fatigued afterwards? As a person with low blood sugar I have learned that carbs are fuel, and protein makes your brain alert. For any of the people that want to differ with my opinion just remember I got my info from my doctor! Please no person emails!

ETHELMERZ-Herb tea used to bother me-maybe a few years ago I got used to it. I used to be a very heavy coffee/Decaf coffee drinker-now I am down to one cup of coffee a day. One benefit I have had cutting down on coffee is whiter teeth. I still drink some black caffeinated tea.
I am not supposed to have much caffeine because I suffer from anxiety. I think it has helped with anxiety cutting back caffeine though I confess when caffeine hits me the right way I feel high and so happy.

I have been caffeine free but I have come to feel a TINY bit once in a while keeps me awake. I would like to cut down to about 2 cups of black tea a day.

I like to listen to good, loud, music, that gets my energy up, especially while at home, doing housework. Exercise helps, but not all the time, sometimes it puts you down instead......... Herbal stuff makes my stomach not feel good, so that kind of stuff does not help me at all.
Does your workplace allow smoking breaks? If so, tell your supervisor you want the same amount of time for "non-smoking breaks," and use them for a quick hike around the building. Business rarely think to offer the time, but they're usually thrilled to give it to you. It makes you more productive, and it also keeps you from filing a grievance about smokers getting preferential treatment.

Try going outside during your lunch or break even if just for 5 minutes. That will give your brain a chance to refresh to make it through and give you more energy for the afternoon. Also, check your vitamins on your tracking log, if you are low in any of them it will affect your energy levels. Vitamin B is supposed to be good for energy. How are you sleeping? If you wake up a lot at night, or its hard to get up in the morning because your tired, you may need to look into getting a new bed.
Sometimes dehydration can make you feel fatigued. Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day.
If you don't like to exercise, just give it a try...find an activity you like (or don't hate!), and if you don't feel up to it, tell yourself you'll exercise for just ten minutes then you can stop if you feel like it. Maybe you'll stop or you might feel like working out longer. In any case, even 10 minutes is a good start, especially if you can work out for 10 minutes 2 or more times a day. The trick is baby steps, challenging yourself to increase your exercise gradually. Being active can help you sleep better at night, and boost your energy as long as you don't overdo it.

when I feel myself dragging at work, I get up and move around - go to the conference room (or bathroom) and do 10 or 20 jumping jacks, or walk outside to the mail box.
if you are in a situation (like a meeting) where moving around is not an option, put a rubber band or an elastic on your wrist. When you feel drowsy, snap it against the inside of your wrist. It's not an energy boost, but it will help you wake up until you can move around. I've used this trick for years (I'm a chronic insomniac). It works best with a rubber band/elastic that fits comfortably, without slack.
ETA - as you eat healthier, move more, and the lbs/inches drop, your energy is likely to increase. Your body has less work to do to move the new, smaller you. If that's NOT an issue for you, you may want to ask your doc. There are some health issues that can cause you to feel lethargic.

"Close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths," Orloff says. "Begin to relax your body. When thoughts come, think of them like clouds in the sky. Let them float by. Visualize a positive thing: a sunset, the beach in Hawaii."
It sounds as if you are doing something similar, to hopefully it is working for you.
I have used in the past a method of giving myself instant energy, but I don't know if it is healthy; so I am not recommending it, just commenting on what I have done: I hold my breath in for as long as I can before I have to breathe. Just doing that for 1-2 minutes really made me feel much more energetic.
I do exercise-maybe what I meant was you need a quick energy short when I am home at night maybe two hours before or feel tired in the office. Instead of drinking coffee and/or getting something to eat I will blank....
There are some Yoga breathing techniques that are supposed to help give a quick energy boost instead of coffee.

CEMOSES: It's going to be a bit of a dilemma for you to increase energy if you don't currently exercise and don't want to start. For me, exercising does a lot more to boost energy than any "energy" foods I choose to eat.
I have read and been told that drinking a large glass of chilled water can be a good way to start the day and help boost the metabolism.
