In the afternoon especially I do one minute burst of cardio. About once an hour I get up and jog in place or do stepups for just one minute. these little burst keep my metabolism up and burning.

I'm on my feet all day at work and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. There's no way I could be a 9-5er working behind a desk sitting all day. YUCK (to me at least... I'm sure some of you don't mind it :)

I agree. I bought myself a big garden wagon so I can haul all of my groceries home from the store. I walk to do that. I also walk to pay my bills. I walk everywhere it is such good cardio.

Yes, they definitely do! Cardio is still necessary, but all those things are part of an active lifestyle. There are also other things--doing the dishes by hand (b/c standing requires more calories than sitting!), prepping and cooking a fancy meal (or just something that requires more time to make), cleaning really thoroughly (or even trying to clean really fast), walking/biking/etc. the long way to get somewhere, starting/working on a garden, getting up to change the channel on the TV without using a remote, stretching or doing a set of any exercise during commercials, etc.

Hello,

That is all true, but it depends on your overall goals. If it is weight loss, you want a higher heart rate for at lest 30m to achieve that goal. Everything someone does that isn't sitting on a couch helps, but to lose weight, you need to push hard on top of daily activities to increase movement in general.

I say everything is better then nothing :)

I found that parking in a spot farther away from the store, taking the stairs, walking to church, or even playing with ur kids and dancing are easy ways to get more movement into ur daily life.
