This happens to me if I go for a long time without eating and it's because of low blood sugar (for me anyway). As long as I eat regularly and make sure to include some protein whenever I eat, I don't have a problem.

You should eat a breakfast, and have that snack before bed like you were doing.

That way if headaches occur again, you will know it isn't from undereating, and consult with your doctor. It could be a medical issue related to your surgery, not anything at all to do with your diet.

I ate half a candy bar (I know, not the best thing) last night to boost my blood sugar, and no headache this morning!

If you continue to get headaches...please consult your doctor! Anytime there has been ear/nose/throat surgery involved, you could be fighting some type of subclinical sinus infection or inflammation that is causing pressure changes within the ear. And headache may be a symptom. When you change positions suddenly (like getting up in the morning!) it might be more noticeable...
Hope you are better soon!!

People who go very low on calories for an extended period of time often lose their hunger cues (but not the other physiological effects of too little nutrition). It sounds like your health issues may have caused that problem for you. Try eating just a little bit in the morning for a few days and see if things return to normal.

I don't necessarily advocate eating when you're not hungry, but if your body is experiencing negative side effects from lack of nutrition, it's a pretty obvious sign that you really do need food even if you don't feel like you do. Just as some people need to "train" themselves to eat less, sometimes you need to convince yourself to eat a little something even if you don't really feel like it. You shouldn't be making yourself sick just to keep your calories up, but clearly you're making yourself sick when they are too low, too. It's a bit of a balancing act sometimes.

Your body has gone without food all night. It's telling you it's hungry. If you can't stomach a big breakfast, have something light like a piece of fruit or half an English muffin with a little bit of peanut butter.

Yes, it's perfectly normal to get a headache if you haven't eaten enough. It's your body's way of telling you it needs fuel! It's probably a good idea to work a little late-night snack into your plan.

I recently had surgery on my ear and then two days later got extremely sick with a UTI. I couldn't eat for a week. I am can eat now, but don't have much of an appetite. I eat maybe two meals a day and a small snack (been skipping breakfast). Before surgery I was eating a snack right before bed. Now I'm not eating much after dinner.

This week, about 15 mins after I wake up (once my brain starts functioning) I get a horrible headache. I'm just now realizing that after I eat something it goes away. At first I thought it was caffeine withdrawal because I'm used to drinking coffee. But even after drinking coffee, I have to eat something for them to go away.

Is this because my body is used to having something right before bed? Not once have I ever had this problem before.
