Our Office Problem Eating was the various stashes of candy, chips, etc that seemed to pop out of drawers in the afternoon for a foodie-free-for-all....shared of course.... (fortunately I worked in a different area, so was just passing through--but it was tempting!!)
That was the norm, right up until a sweet little mouse also popped out of a drawer one afternoon!! The food was banished.... patti

Pizza parties and cake were the norm.
I packed/pack a lunch and skip the cake. That is for birthdays, showers, etc, and training sessions.
Now, by request, every other is a Subway Party. Just skip the cookie.
You can change things, somewhat, if you'll talk to the purse strings.
It's great that you were able to help make that change. I kind of miss celebrating birthdays, but I know the last place we did it, they eventually went to once a month simply due to cost.

I wish you the best and hope it continues in YOUR office. I am not as fortunate. When I first started working here, almost 9 years ago, I was told we celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries monthly.
What I wasn't told was that people ALSO bring goodies on individual birthdays anyway. I walked around talking about "toxic food environment" for awhile, until I was jokingly (with a definite tone of serious) told to shut up.
Bottom line, I've just had to develop my willpower muscle and make sure I have healthy things to eat to help me stay away from the junk.

When I started at my current job they had cake and ice cream for every personís birthday. In one month that could be as many as 10 cakes. That is on top of the other baked goods, candy, lunch outings, etc. that already cluttered the office. It wasnít long before I realized one of my biggest hurdles with my lifestyle change would the office. I proposed that we announce all the month's birthdays at the monthly staff meeting, and celebrate with cake and ice cream in the afternoon. That way we only have 1 cake a month. Everyone was really pleased with the change, and I have already noticed some shrinking waistlines.
