Strange as it sounds, going too low on calories can hurt your ability to lose weight. Here's why.
Your body is designed to protect itself from starvation during times of greatly-reduced food availability. So when you eat too little, your body thinks it's starving. To compensate, your metabolism will slow down considerably, making it very difficult (or impossible) for you to lose weight. In this state, your body will preferentially burn everything but your stored body fat.
Eating too little poses other problems as well, such as nutritional deficiencies. On top of that, if you later increase your calories after a long bout of eating too few, your body will be more likely to store these calories as fat, in preparation for another future "famine."
Your best bet is to aim for a slow weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week by combining a moderate calorie reduction with increased calorie expenditure through exercise. If all the info you entered during your program set-up is accurate, the recommended calorie range you received should be what you need to accomplish this healthy rate of weight loss.

in my opinion ( you can take it if you want to or not ) but you should exercise more like if you have a Wii you could get the program zumba its like a workout dancing game its really fun and it burns tuns of calories but insted of like taking a beif walk i would do that. if can access zumba there is a website called dailyhiit.com and there is a workout a day that you can do . if you have a bike you can ride your bike up step hills , or if you like to wilk wak up step hils and also down im not really good at calories but if you eat lots of fruit and vegies you'll soon loose the weight that you want to loose (: good luck .
So, I've been overweight all of my life. I know that my stomach is extremely expanded from years of overeating, so I want to go on a strict calorie budget to shrink my stomach. Once I lose some weight, then I'll go back up to the regular 1,800 calories a day.
I'm 5'8" and right now I weight 240 pounds so I have a lot I need to lose. My plan is to try to eat around 800-1,000 calories each day for my "shrink down." Some of my friends have been telling me that I'm eating too few calories, but I really want to continue until I reach my temporary goal.
I've just started doing some light exercise each day which usually only includes a 15 minute walk.
What do you guys think? Is it ok for me to do this for a month or two? What's the least amount of calories I can eat each day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
