Hi Karen

You might try adding some variety to your exercise routine which will help with the soreness and will also be more effective for weight loss since your body quickly gets used to doing the same thing all the time.

Also make sure you're wearing good shoes that fit properly, and that you're doing a good warm up then cool down and stretch at the end of your walks.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

just always make sure you listen to your body, if you are sore give it a day or shorten the walk a little. I continued with my knee hurting and ended up not working out for weeks because I injured my knee and it needed time to get better. Your body doesnt lie to ya

Thanks for your comments. Here's some more info. I'm 58 years young, in good health except for being 40 lbs over weight and I'm working on that. I walk a steady pace of 18 minute miles. I should be able to walk this much without the soreness. Maybe arthritis?

I walk more than that since I don't have a car. It all depends on your fitness. I have no problems walking six or more miles everyday. I then plan to walk everyday when I do the Appalachian Trail. I suppose that I'll walk more than twenty some days. I know that some days will be harder than others.

Walking three miles a day isn't too much if you're fit. I was doing that before I started my weight loss journey. If you're pushing yourself the whole time to go faster, then I would think it too much. I do most of my walking at a comfortable pace. I only push myself toward the end of some of my walks and when I'm on the exercise equipment at the gym. I hope this helps.

Maybe you need to crosstrain. But, anyways, check with your doctor for the unusual pain you're feeling. Good luck!

My legs, especially my hips, are so sore and after my walk, when I sit on the computer for an hour, my legs are very stiff. What gives? I've been walking like this for 3.5 years and the soreness has been going on about a year.
