White tees, pastel or muted shades or occasionally black? I think you'd look just fine in these colors. There are loads of pretty pastels out this spring; many of us - at any age - don't find that certain loud colors flatter us. So why not avoid them? Tell these people they're free to dress however they want, and leave it at that.

They'll get the point.

I think you should wear what ever you feel comfortable and feel good in.

The choice is yours, not theirs. But, what is their point to want you to dress in 'loud' colors or what they perceive as younger colors?

Wear what makes you feel most comfortable in. If you don't like what you are wearing you tend to present yourself entirely differently. "You are what you wear?????" Shouldn't be true but I think there is some sense to that!!

In my 40's and love bright colors as well, but also don't mind the toned down look. It is really what makes you comfortable.

I would wear what makes you comfortable. Mothers are funny, huh? While we certainly love them, they always feel that we want their input, good, bad or otherwise!

Funny...because my mom was just happy when she saw me in something other than black starting a few years ago.I'm in my 40's as well.

I love bright colors! I am also in my 40's. While bright colors are good for me, YOU shouldn't allow others to dictate to you what you should wear. Just tell them that you prefer neutral tones.

Sounds like your family has some boundary issues. Just smile and say, "Thanks, you've given me something to think about." Then keep dressing how you like.

wear what you wish, if you can.
You could accessorize with a scarf or belt or something similar in a more vibrant colour, without wearing an entire outfit in that particular shade, if that would make them happier, I suppose.

Of course, there are some people who will never be happy, because they'll always find something to contradict or comment

ETA: for what it's worth, if that's a recent picture, I would never have guessed your age was more than mid-20's

I am 65 and my mother still tries to tell me what color to wear and wants me to dye my hair. I have thin hair and the darker it is the THINNER it looks. I am not comfortable with my scalp showing! Mother does not care- she is so vain and it makes me look older- I am older! I understand.

I don't like wearing clothes in loud colors! I just don't. I prefer white tees, pastel or muted shades, or even black sometimes.

But lately, my Mom and Aunt has been on my case! They keep telling me that I'm still young enough to wear loud colors. Like bright pinks. To me, it's not a question of age, I just simply don't like wearing loud colors!

Even a friend of my Aunt's says that I dress 'old'! But I'm already in my 40s, I'm not that young anymore! They just don't get it! I have a good mind to tell that friend of my aunt's to keep the comments to herself! I will, the next time I see her! I'm just so mad and offended! What business is it of their's anyway!?
