Log on every day, read all the articles you can (loads of information), use the New Members and Getting Started Page. Also the Track Your Food and Track Your Exercise pages are very helpful. For all of this you get POINTS. Those can go towards SparkGoodies for yourself and others. Also join a couple of teams that you feel are suited to your needs. You can also do what is called "Friending" other members. I like to ask them first, and I personally, don't believe in having hundreds and hundreds, but that is a personal choice. Lastly take one step at a time-don't overwhelm yourself. Also don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake. Just pick yourself up and think of it as a learning experience. One Day At a Time. And this little phrase Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired - HALT. The very best of luck to you. SparkPeople is a wonderful, informative place. Take advantage of it.
The hardest part of starting a new fitness lifestyle for the last-first time is that the real people in our lives don't really get it. Couch potatoes tend to veg together.
You can't look to them for support. They unintentionally work against you ... AND at times you will work against yourself.
Log in everyday! Use the bonus wheel goal everyday; read articles; force that 10 minutes of exercise in ( at least) AND remember that it is like AA ... You only concentrate on being fitness sober one day at a time.

Welcome to Spark People ! While it would be nice to received personalized service like that, it's just not practical. It's impossible to learn everything you need to know from one person.
If you have any questions, feel free to post on the forums. Reading posts, replying to posts and leaving a post is a good way to learn what you need. Keep in mind, our journeys are all different. As they say, one size does not fit all.
So, what are some things you'd like to know ? If you have some questions, why not start here with the Ask the Experts list of common questions. Just click on the link.

Hi Mickey. Welcome to Spark People. Hope you're finding your way round the site OK. You haven't had many replies to your request for help. I think it may be because we don't really know which bit you want help with and we could write pages and pages that wouldn't really help you. It would be a good idea for you to go on the Start Page and start working through the New members welcome guide. (You get loads and loads of points for doing that too!)
The other really important thing is to start tracking your food. When you put in your weight and your goals, Spark people will give you a recommended calorie range. If you do some exercise and track it, you get more calories! Some people (including me) find it hard to stick to the right number of calories when they start, so you might want to allow yourself more to start with and gradually cut down when you start to find out which foods fill you up without taking you way over your calorie limit.
Anyway, I hope it goes well for you. You'll find lots of people willing to help when you find specific things you need to know.
